$2.2 billion and counting. Disney is going to be just fine.

And I would expect for it to drop on D+ and HBO Max at the same time.

That's what happened with West Side Story, so possibly.

Ah, okay. Yeah, I bet it’ll go to both. Would that be the same date as digital? There was no mention of streaming in the pr.

EDIT: yeah, it’s just PVOD digital rentals and purchases first. No other dates have yet been announced. TONS of extras to be spread around different outlets.

So, yeah, back to being pretty clever for The Diz then. :)

Glad I waited for D+ for this and Quantumania. Need to make that subscription pay for itself somehow! ;)

Original also comes to 4K the same day too.

Shame they can’t just put out an "all in" 4K/3D combo like for Alita. In fact, they don’t even need to put a non-3D disc in there: any player and screen can drop the 3D element to just display a standard HD image. In fact, I often play the 3D version of a film flat because those discs are generally encoded with higher bitrates than regular BDs, which often also have extras whereas a 3D disc is usually movie only.

Waitaminute! Why am I even bothered!? I’m not buying this! :)

You'd think we would have LEARNED by now:
One of the coffin nails in Blu3D was when we were so enraged that Brave or Cars 2 on Blu3D had to include the Blu, and Blu had to include the DVD, and DVD had to include the then hard Digital Copy on CD-Rom...
Throw in a Bonus Features disc, and early adopters could look at a 5-disc edition for $45.

Reducing disc clutter was one of the main impeti for creating Disney Movies Anywhere, the early forerunner of streaming, just as an excuse to drop the CD-Rom.
But when they tried releasing "Oz the Great & Powerful" as just the Blu3D disk, they were caught between disc fans on one side complaining that it needed the 2D Blu, and the rest of the Everything-Disney-Does-Is-Evil cheapskates on the other raging that the one-disc was still $39, which sort of defeated the purpose.

It would have sank the entire industry, had Pixar and MCU not been allowed to make their own discs, and figured out that all we wanted was the 2D+3D Blu.

Well...er, yeah, you're right, it's an Avatar movie. Why should I be worried, when we have the Kickstarter-restored 3D "Robot Monster" coming out next month, and the Martin & Lewis "Money From Home" next? 8)

I am mostly bothered by Disney calling the 4K version the "Ultimate Edition" when it fails to provide Cameron's preferred 3D version at all. Dumb.

I can get the 3D for $15 through DMC, so maybe I will do that.

I’m just going to do the sensible thing and watch it for "free" on D+…eventually.

All sequels have been delayed:

Avatar 3 - December 19, 2025
Avatar 4 - December 21, 2029
Avatar 5 - December 19, 2031

No doubt the dates will change again...

This will be the cinematic equivalent of George R. R. Martin not completing The Winds of Winter.
