In a Twitter post by Frank Marshall, co-producer of the English version of Hayao Miyazaki's "Ponyo," we learned the DVD release date:



"Ponyo DVD Will Be Out in March"


So, the DVD (no word on the Blu-Ray, though one is expected) for "Ponyo" will come out in March 2010.

Ponyo is already available on DVD in Japan .. and will see a Blu-ray release there on December 8th.

Both discs sport english subtitles .. but neither has an english-language dialogue track. (while the DVD only has japanese dialogue, the Blu-ray will have audio in japanese, french, spanish, italian, korean, and mandarin chinese .. but no english).

Regardless, the japanese Blu-ray release will play in any Blu-ray player sold in North America (since Sony saw fit to include us in the same Blu-ray 'region' as Japan). The japanese DVD, of course, requires a Region-2 or Multi-Region player for viewing.

Actually, the Japanese "Ponyo" Blu-Ray will have the North American dub--on the Bonus Features disk (with Japanese subs). I guess I forgot to note that this was for the US dub.

Aww man! It sucks living in the UK. We don't even get it in the cinema till February. What the heck is up with that?!

And even then it will be a limited release, playing almost side by side, but losing preference to, The Princess And The Frog in almost the same UK time frame.
