I don't even know why When I Am Older is in the movie. I mean I know why, Olaf needed another song, but it is just so random in its placing, contributes absolutely nothing extra to the plot except instead of Olaf talking about getting older he sings about getting older. That's actually a problem I have with the majority of the songs from the Frozen series, you could remove most of them and you would still be able to follow the plot with little difficulty. And 2 is worse than 1 in that aspect.

To be fair, we get introduced to the four spirits for the first time and see the face of Nokk. Visually speaking, it adds something.

I could understand doing it the first time but again? Especially when the songs aren't easily singable?

Oh well, watch it bring in more moolah than Dolittle.

Agreed, at least it provides some plot momentum: He's not singing about getting older, he's singing "All this scary stuff happening right now will MAKE SENSE once I'm older...", as he's the first to notice scary spirit-stuff happening.

Which is slightly better in the sequel's use of the songs, and we don't feel like we did in the first movie, ie. that we were watching some Wicked/Mormon Broadway-fangirl's Hunchback-like attempt to audition the next live-action stage musical for the New Amsterdam...A big problem with "In Summer", among others.

I took my girl to see it yesterday, and thought a similar thing. These were not songs made for radio, they were made for the story, and suited the plot and action.

And.... I liked it! In some ways even better than the original, as this one was a grander quest/adventure - making me the audience for it more than the first one. Not quite top tier Disney, but a darn good sequel. And I do hope we get a third in order to resolve the mystery of the girls' parents.

I'd love it if Disney could physically release the score like they have for all their other animated movies. Like they did for the original Frozen before releasing a Song only version. I am normally a person who buys the soundtrack on the first day but I still haven't picked Frozen II up (as a physcial copy) as a silent protest...I think. Or maybe its because the song were so disappointing. I don't know.

Wow that is marketing at its lying best.

Daniel - you can preview the deleted songs on iTunes by checking out the deluxe edition of the soundtrack. Personally, I found the majority better than what was chosen. They were more Frozen like in their style. Very similar to the opening number we got. My personal theory is they chose the chosen songs with an eye on award season. They wanted every character to have their own individual song that could be easily be performed live and without context.
