As I understand it, they’re also doing simultaneous releases?

Aside from Justice League, yes.

From the sounds of it, Luca will be a freebie like Soul.

I meant Disney (JL is Warners, natch).

Yes, now confirmed that Luca will be D+ exclusively, as per Soul. I'm so lucky to have a really nice theatre at home, but these films deserve to be seen on a big screen by everyone.

I don't like this at all. I like going to the movies.

Not that it's exactly safe right now, but to remove the option completely feels wrong.

Early reactions to a 30 minute preview:
Got a 30 minute sneak peek at #LUCA. A bright, beautiful, imaginative, funny & fantastical coming-of-age tale about friendship, conquering fears & sea monsters that captures the spirit of a perfect Italian summer vacation. Jacob Tremblay & Jack Dylan Grazer are great guides.
Been lucky enough to see a 30 minutes of Pixar's latest Luca, and gutted we won't get to see the movie on the big screen. It looks truly beautiful and will make you pine for a holiday, as well as delivering the typical Pixar imagination, humour and warmth.
Saw 30 minutes of #Pixar’s #Luca. This NEEDS to be seen on a big screen. Gorgeous Italian landscapes and architecture. Can’t wait to see the rest!
Watched 30 minutes of @PixarLuca and can't wait to see the rest. Pixar has another slam dunk that immediately puts you in a summer frame of mind. The players music & story are wonderful & there's one character so bizarre, I laughed out loud. Lavoro eccellente, Enrico Casarosa!

New poster and trailer:

Looks so good. Giulia's voice reminds me of Mertle from Lilo & Stitch. We also meet the antagonist. Wasn't visible in the first trailer, but Giulia's father is missing an arm. Loving that cat. Water scenes are so gorgeous and colorful. Simply lovely!

I confess the teasers before this just left me feeling eh but that one made me laugh and it made me care about the main characters. I'm definitely just disappointed iI won't be seeing it on the big screen because stupid Disney can't possible operate their releases with different scenarios based on how the pandemic is going in different countries. I would more than happily hand over (more) money to see this in the cinema and not just rely on my + subscription fee.

So wanted the seagulls on the turn at 2:15 to say..."mine?"

This looks lovely. It’s another shame that it’s being shunted to D+ for "free", though I can’t hide the fact that this will make it easier to see at the earliest opportunity. I’ll still pick up the disc, though, since it’ll beat the stream, no water pun intended.

Landing page is up on Disney+. Commercials have also been airing. The song that plays in the trailer is a great Italian pop song called "Il Gatto E La Volpe" by Edoardo Bennato:

In English "The Cat and the Fox", as the pic makes clear. I like it, it's very catchy.
