Still not exactly hyped. Next to Turning Red, it just seems so lifeless and drearily dull. The cat Sox reminds me too much of Baymax.

I touched on some of the time discrepancies in a post or the above, Bill, and agree. Obviously willing to suspend judgement until the movie opens, but there is also something "odd" about a movie — even a caricatured CG one — based on a toy where the "real life" inspiration for that toy also…looks like a toy…! :? ;)

I just thought the toy was based on an existing in-universe sci-fi property, like Buck Rogers - not an actual person.

I just don't understand what differentiates it from the standard blockbuster MCU/Star Wars film. Very disappointing to see Pixar sink to that level after coming up with original fresh films like Luca and Turning Red.

Me too. We will probably find out that Toy Story exists un some kind of multiverse. Where Toy Story's Buzz is a Buck Rogers like concept and this movie is a legit Buzz without a toy based on him. Man I hope I am terribly wrong on that spitballing

This talk reminds me of Alan Moore's last line in his "Last Superman Story." Something like... "Maybe it's just an imaginary story. But aren't they all?"

I'm not worried about what is "real" or not. They're all just stories. But for the record, I think that Buzz is basically Buck Rogers. He's had a toy (that came to life in Andy's room). He's had a comic. lunch pails, toy ray guns, you name it. And now, he has a new movie. No need to overthink it.

Isn’t Buzz the toy merchandising from that old early 80s animated series Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command…?

Poster, synopsis and second trailer:

Gave away too much. Think it would have been leagues better if they saved the
time travel
reveal for the film. Oh well. Still not doing much for me, but I'm warming up to Sox.

At least this is looking more like the film that the Toy Story Buzz toy is merchandised from, as opposed to being a fake biopic of a real spaceman that inspired a toy, for which the timing made little sense. Now this coming over as the movie Andy would have gone to see and got excited about wanting the Buzz Lightyear action figure, in the same way Woody's Round-Up was what inspired the Woody merch.

Okay, so you're saying you initially thought that this was a movie about a fake real spaceman, rather than more properly a movie about a fake real fake spaceman?

Nah, it looked like a movie about a fake real spaceman, but now it’s a movie about a fake fake spaceman! Buzz isn’t a real astronaut, he’s just played by an actor! ;)

The initial teaser heavily implied that Buzz Lightyear was a real person or at least the written sypnosis did. But the trailer definitely lets me know that what I am watching is going to be the movie that inspired all the merchandise and that makes me happy, I can deal with the existence of this movie now. Does it need to exist no, will I watch it yes.
