Dave Green’s animated hybrid Coyote vs. Acme on July 21, 2023
Coyote vs. Acme features the the age-old rivalry between the Roadrunner nemesis and his preferred mail order supplier. The screenplay is from James Gunn, Jeremy Slater, Jon Silberman and Josh Silberman and Samy Burch, based on the Wile E. Coyote character and fictitious Acme corporation from the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons, and the fictional New Yorker magazine article entitled “Coyote v. Acme,” written by Ian Frazier. Former DreamWorks Animation boss and Tom & Jerry producer Chris DeFaria and Gunn are producing, the latter under his Two Monkeys, A Goat and Another, Dead, Monkey production banner.

So this is going to be another 2D shaded hybrid...before we get a whole WB animated universe... ;)

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I rather liked the so-called "realistic" approach they went for on the live-action Scoob films. Not saying that's what they should be doing here per se, but it did help set them apart as "live-action" outings and made them feel "special."

And if you're going to do "hand-drawn animation," it's a shame they can't do...you know, hand-drawn animation (especially since Back in Action looked great, but then again, it had some very talented people behind it). Hard to tell from the tease what they're doing with Space Jam 2, but as well-intentioned as the new T&J no doubt is, there's something about it that looks too smooth at certain points of the trailer. If that makes sense.

I agree as far as hybrid films go, though a "live-action" coyote and road runner film (has Road Runner actually been confirmed for this?) could look quite ugly!

And totally, as expressed by a couple of people above, the "fake-drawn" look lacks the human touch in the outlines especially, which is what gives true life. Instead, this is a faithful, even accurate facsimile...but it’s still a copy that loses that "real" life touch.

But, I thought Hal Needham's "The Villain" was supposed to be a "live-action Road Runner movie", with Kirk Douglas as Wile E.?

Nah, unfortunately The Villain, despite its recreating loads of Acme and Avery type gags, suffers from a lack of whip-fast timing, and they all fall flat. It’s a bizarre, slo-mo film.

This movie has been in development heck since 2010! One of many that were announced. I guess it's cool this one is back on track. I'm always curious to see what could be done. Coyote vs. Acme -- makes sense, what with all his failures with their products.

Because it's a Warner movie.

(Well, okay, James Gunn had worked with Cena first, before Warner wanted to beat Peacemaker into the ground.)

Still love the sound of this, but shouldn't it be Coyote v Acme? ;)
