Disney's Cinderella Evil Stepsisters (Live-Action)

Post by Daniel » April 16th, 2021, 1:36 pm

Anastasia and Drizella are getting the Maleficent and Cruella treatment. Currently untitled and no word if it will have any correlation to the 2015 remake. Sure, why not. ;)

And here I was hoping for a Madame Medusa spin-off! Maybe next time. ;)

Given the star power (assuming they are in fact the stars), it’s extremely evident this will be a comedy. And given their ages, I’m assuming it will serve as a “sequel” to the events of Cinderella.

And Disney made Anastasia nice in not one, but two Cinderella films, so this won’t be as “bold” of a move as Maleficent was.

And, to add to the confusion, there's ANOTHER "Evil stepsisters' side of the story" chik-flik comedy in the works, from another comic who Really Wanted To Write/Direct, as Amy Poehler wants to do one about two modern urban Asian sisters. And a musical, no less.

I'm guessing these things go in cycles--First the Little Women rush, then the Jane Austen rush, then the Emily Dickinson rush, and then the Cinderella-Deconstruction rush...Another Snow White one should be happening any minute, it's been ten years.

(And on the subject of Wiig & Mumolo, whom Disney clearly snapped up to self-market on the "success" they were persuaded was going to happen to "Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar":
Did anyone remember sitting through that three-hour never-ending first vanity B&SGtVDM trailer, and thinking "Are we supposed to KNOW these characters already, the way they're being star-marketed in our face? Like, is it a recent SNL sketch, or some Australian sitcom where the movie version came over here instead, or...Could we get a hint?? :? ")

The thing I don't get is what's with all these Cinderella adaptations suddenly. It's just overdone in my opinion.

[Removed to be nice to everybody] fans tend to centrate on the story aspect of Cindy's stepsisters being unattractive and picking on her. Which is technically not in the original tale.

Most of the [same demographic] also like making a big personally indulgent story-deconstructive show of sticking up for the "overlooked" characters, rather than that stuck-up good-looking prom-queen who runs off with the good shoes, dress and guy.
Because either way you go, there's always someone to blame.

And that's different how..? Clearly the redacted parts would've been "female" because that's the kind of sexist person Eric is.
