Wow, that kids eyes are insanely blue! Looks charming and warm, definitely a passion project. Gave me some chills and emotions I wasn't expecting. Getting Cinema Paradiso vibes too.

Yeah, same.
I hope there’s a scene of when he was ten and allowed a developmentally disabled boy to win a race while everyone booed him and cheered for the boy. I can’t imagine not crying.

The Fabelmans
Awesome!
Started a new thread and moved your posts here, Vi.
It would have been cool if the films "Sammy" shot were Steve's actual 8mils, but I’m also hoping that when this hits home video that we might — just might — get a selection of some of them as extras, even if just clips within some context.
Very much along Ken Branagh’s Belfast, which I also loved, this looks like Spielberg's most personal and dare I say avant-garde film in years. The way he’s using the camera here he hasn’t done in a long while and it’s as if the subject matter has rejuvenated or at least given him a new set of toys to play with. I’m even kind of glad he did this instead of Indy now, and look forward to it immensely. Also helps that I love Dano and Williams; I think this is a lock for Best Pic next year, and at least a nomination if nothing else.

For sure, along with Director, Supporting Actress and Original Screenplay. The Academy loves both Spielberg and movies about movies.

Yeah, and it’s been a bit of a drought, to use his word, for him in the last few years, and with passion project West Side Story failing to gel, this is the late career highlight that will give him the potential last critical hurrah.

Re: Ready Player One
I just watched Cinema Paradiso last week, and found myself getting Fabelmans vibes...But not in a good way.
On paper, I would love to see a Spielberg autobiography, but this feels as if it was pushed all the way into the Corny meter.
Now, if Melissa Mathison had lived to script it, and given it that ET/BFG/Indian in the Cupboard glow (no, Daniel, I didn't say it was one of his...), we'd have had a classic.
Sadly, the Pandemic years of Amazon and Netflix nominees took the last remaining dignity out of the old geek pastime of predicting Oscars before seeing the movie.
Along with the annual thrill of laughing at anyone who thought Spielberg, DiCaprio, Hanks and Scorsese had automatic nominations just for showing up--As we saw from West Side Story, they DO.

Yeah, the Fabelmans decide they can love Sammy for who he is, not what he is…

I know it doesn’t come out for a while of course, but that’s very encouraging.
