I guess that I'm a serious fan.

What is the big red Rankin/Bass DVD set like?

I saw that at a stupidly low price and wondered whether to pick it up. I'm guessing it uses the restored prints the HD was struck from at least?

And what is the difference between the red one from 2004:

...and this one, from 2002:

Amazon has little on the contents, though another Rudolph disc has an interview on it. Do either of these sets carry extras?

Anyone have the set and can verify the contents? :)

I have the blue set. Don't get it! The pic quality isn't great and there are Christmas cookie commercials you can't skip past.

Okay, that knocks that one off the list! Thanks James.

Anyone know if the red one was a repackage, or if they remastered?

Don't know from experience but according to the Amazon page under format:

Blue package: Animated, Color, Ntsc, Academy
Red package: Box set, Color, Compilation, Dubbed, Remastered, Animated, Ntsc, Academy

BTW - my blue set is a little different. It looks exactly the same but does not include The Little Drummer Boy or Frosty Returns.

Reminder, Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer is airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. on CBS - and in HD again! Such a great classic. I have it on DVD, but there's something special about seeing it on TV. :)

I'm assuming James merged this? Or is there a duplicate thread to go out, hunt down and kill, kill, KILL!

Sorry...got carried away there.

No, I was being sincere! Daniel went back and added his post to a thread from 2005 rather than start a new thread!

Uh, I see the listing on a CBS-HD affiliate, but I don't see an actual "HD" in the listing.
(Which omission I would assume to be correct, although not sure whether the 1964 original was shot on film or videotape, and in 4:3 either way.)

It is HD - CBS has been promoting as such. Also check out the previous posts about the quality.

Well, missed it last two years, let's hope it's better than ABC's advertised "upgrade" of Grinch, which looks like it was run through a QuickTime converter.

Hmm, I saw Grinch the other night and it looked just fine.

Anywho, Rudolph today! Woo!
