Thoughts on Skyland

Post by Sullivan » December 2nd, 2005, 1:36 pm

Kudos to SOMEBODY for trying to create a lush look TV show.

They've obviously been studying their Castle in the Sky/Laputa dvd's.

And their Nausicaa.

Too bad it falls short in the execution. That voice acting. Woof! Weak character designs. I actually had no idea that the girl playing basketball was a child. Her design made me think she was about 17 until her mom who looked identical but a third taller appeared!

A pity. This could be a blockbuster. It still might be. They need tighter writing.

It used to be that what TV animation didn't have in looks, they made up for in writing. Geez, half of the old Ghostbusters episodes were better than the crap plot of the second movie by far.

I'd LOVE to see what a studio could do with a CG look like this AND some killer writing like the old days.

I still predict this will be a big hit, that production design IS lush!

Wait, what's Skyland? I think I missed something.

EDIT: Never mind. Missed it on the front page. Wouldn't work for me, of course.

I was at the launch for this in Cannes this October, and what struck me most was the obvious Star Wars rip offs.

Good looking show, but drawn from many, many sources... :(
