Yeah, a very schmaltzy film! Clunky dialogue. So many montages and time jumps. Everything happens too quickly. Custody battle felt forced and unsatisfying. I thought Milo did good with what he was given with.

Loving the new icons! Always good to see what you post here…surprised Butch And Sundance isn’t a Star add, since I’d say it was a little on the edge as a "Disney" movie, even with age filters…?

We may do Cruella again tonight as have family over who would like to see, though I was hoping to wait until I had the 4K before we ran it again. Decided I’m def waiting for Black Widow to turn "free", though, as I’m just not that inspired to see that, basically, since all it really seems to be doing is to give a character a past when they have no future…

Y'know, I know they're half (2/3?) National Geographic Channel, but most of us went to streaming to get AWAY from cable Shark Week?
Which, being ephemeral scheduled cable, only lasted one week?

Point agreed, demographic Stubbornness does not always justify doubling down on making a movie. This was always Paramount's desperate-IM2-rescue movie, not MCU's empowering-heroine movie, and she wasn't going to kick the bucket when Paramount wanted to make it.

And for those who like Doug Walker's Weird-Al act  , a quick Nostalgia Critic review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnxbkPFgAJA

Black Widow was never a "desperate Paramount Iron Man 2 rescue movie". Paramount wasn't trying to save face after Iron Man 2 made a fortune for them (if anything, that would've been the reason they were interested in making it, because it had been so successful). And regardless, they haven't been involved with Marvel for like a decade now. Disney isn't going to greenlight movies based off what they may or may not have done with the MCU.

For me, oddly enough, I'm actually excited for it for the reasons Ben says he's content waiting for it to be "free" on D+. I was pretty heartbroken when Black Widow died in Endgame, as she was my favorite Avenger along with Iron Man (it was a rough day for me!), and I was especially bummed that she didn't get to do any fighting in the movie, when that was kind of her trademark. So this will allow me to have "closure" with a butt-kicking goodbye, sort of similar to how the Solo movie helped provide some levity after he bought it in The Force Awakens.

No, they're going to green light movies (or at least this one) SOLELY on what utilitarian part it can play in all four ideas of Phase IV they're trying to play at once. (Which Ben prudently de-spoilered from the post, but we'll take that up when the third Spiderman movie comes out.)

And looking at the '12 Avengers again, the scene of BW kicking into action when she heard "Barton has been compromised" suggested that Paramount and MCU were looking at a much DIFFERENT idea for a Widow movie, before Avengers 2, and Hawkeye's wife and kids in the country, ruined the whole thing. (Yeah, that substitute Hulk romance didn't go anywhere either, did it?)
And, again, before they thought Captain Marvel's audience was buttering the MCU's bread against the Patriarchy.

The one thing that sounds interesting to me is that this apparently recontextualises Nat's death in Endgame.

But…can we just take the BW talk into the MCU talk please? Ta.

Mission To Mars! We still need a Blu for that!

Oh, yeah, I saw Love, Simon. Not as "funny" as it looked, but a nice enough little film. It did annoy me, though, that the whole plot was forced through based on something really stupid: that he left the internet screen on his private emails. I mean, the guy was super careful not to leave any crumbs, and would have been super-sensitive to whatever he was doing wherever he was doing it, and it felt this happened merely so the other kid could see the truth and set a plot in motion, which is pretty dumb. And what was he doing checking out private emails on a school computer when he had a phone *and* his own comp at home? Yeah, I know: he had to give up his phone in school, but again, that’s plot semantics, and so pretty dumb again. It was right at the end of the school day: he could have just got his phone or gone home! That the whole thing was based on something that just wouldn’t have happened, or even been *allowed* to happen, just felt hollow to me, though what came after was enjoyable enough if not earth-shattering. And I totally guessed who it was! Think the film was enough for me; I don’t think I need to be catching up with Victor anytime soon. :)

PS: hate that Gordon Ramsey is on D+. If ever there was someone who does not belong on any kind of Disney platform, it’s him!

Actually, Simon had already gotten his phone back when he used the school computer. I think the only reason he was on it was so he could a find a GIF to attach to his email.

Oh yeah I actually used to watch him here and there way back when I had BBC America. (It was mostly reality shows then.). It was an interesting show but he did seem a little conceited. :?
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!
