Oscar Contest 2021

Post by James » April 11th, 2021, 9:59 pm

Animated Views is giving away $50 worth of movies — your choice of either an Amazon gift card or a Fandango gift card — during our 17th Annual Oscar Event! All you have to do is predict who is going to win at the 93rd Annual Academy Awards (to be held on Sunday, April 25th, and televised on ABC). The person with the most correct picks will win!

Log into your Animated Views Forum account to play. Not a forum member? Registration is free and easy so why not sign-up now! You never have to actually use the forum if you don't want to. We never give away or sell any of your information. And other than a message to confirm your address (and another if you win!), we do not send any emails to forum members.

Make your prediction in each category using this form. All entries must be received by Friday, April 23rd, at 11:59pm ET. One entry per person please. If you send more than one entry, only the first one received will be counted.

Here are a few links that might be useful.

- This is the contest page with the ballot and rules: https://animatedviews.com/oscars/2021/

- This is a list of all the people who have entered. On Oscar night this link will keep a live running score of who is winning the contest: https://animatedviews.com/oscars/2021/results.php

- This link will allow you to review what you picked and give you the option to download/print a PDF file of all the nominees with your picks highlighted: https://animatedviews.com/oscars/2021/review.html

- This link will give you details about the online chat: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8603

- And last, but definitely not least, the Animated Views Oscar Contest Record Book, with all the previous winners and other details about the results over the years: https://animatedviews.com/oscar-contest-record-book/

Let me know of any issues. For the first time in decades, the Academy changed the number of categories and I had to rewrite a lot of code to account for it!

That's weird. I didn't enter 'til 2011? And that was the one year that I beat Ben. Fun to revisit all that.

I'll feel especially lost with voting this year. Maybe I'm not alone?

OK. Did the contest and i'm sure i'll do awful again this year but still have fun picking winners every year.

Also why is onward in the best pictures on the contest? Pretty sure onward didn't get a best picture nod.

Time to try and think like an academy member which means

a) Trying to wok out the theme/narrative for this years awards

and b) giving an award to every best picture nominee to justify its nomination

I know b) doesn't always occur but I feel since they expanded to more than 5 BP nominees, there has been less sweeping of the awards as the Academy seems to want to award every BP nominee.

Ugh. Error with the number of best pic noms and the list isn’t in the order I usually put it in. I’ve temporarily closed voting and will fix in the morning.

Thanks for the heads up guys. The categories are now in the "right" order. This didn't effect anything, it's jut my preference. And the Best Picture nominees are now correct. There was a misspelling in my database of nominees, so when the code couldn't find a movie by that name it defaulted to the first movie in the database, and since I started with Best Animated Film Onward was the first one listed.

gaastra and mrswaan, you were the only two who entered before the mistake was found so if you want to change your Best Picture selection to Trial of the Chicago 7 (the nominee that was missing from your ballot), let me know in the next day or two.

What a trip down memory lane with the Record Book! Very cool. :)

I'm getting "Error" for the result links 2012 and up.

Fixed!

EDIT: Just a heads up that since the number of categories has changed this year for the first time since we've been running this contest, I've changed how the game is scored. For example, instead of 21 out of 22 being the record for most correct picks, the record is now 95.5% correct picks. This will ensure we can still compare results between years despite differing total categories.

Not a big deal but just want to be transparent!

Re: Oscar Contest 2021 - LAST CHANCE TO ENTER!

Post by Ben » April 23rd, 2021, 4:58 am

Added my ballot, as usual, but not intended, the night before closing!

Am pretty confident this year, as a lot of awards have been going in the same directions, but two mid-level ones have me totally split, so I went with my picks over what might actually win there.

Still working out how I’m going to watch this Sunday, but I hope to be there! :)
