If anything, Hans being genuine would've been more interesting and led to a stronger message.
But that didn't quite make her sympathetic enough for the audience to care, so we got a Baddy-Waddy villain inserted in the final drafts instead, where an otherwise minor character does a baffling 180 in the last reels.
And, thanks to female directors, guess what thematic plot point MAKES him bad?...
