English dub trailer for weathering with you from G kids. Both dub and sub versions will get a limited week long release from fanthom events. (don't forget we live in America so unlike other countries where anime films get full releases America treats anime films like crap and we get one week at 2:30 on Friday shows! Sigh.) Thank goodness for fanthom events. They at least let us see them on the big screen! Fanthom is a life saver for anime in America!
I look forward to catching this when it gets it's DVD release. I really enjoyed Your Name. That's one of 2 anime movies (the other Arrietty) I recommend to friends who are resistant to 'crazy' anime. To show them that anime is accessible to them. And as an aside, I've become more interested in seeing anime movies since the West has abandoned handdrawn animation.
Weathering with you has hit no 2 in the American box office in limited release! This is the second time a limited release anime movie has hit the top 2 in America! (dragonball hit no 1!) Why are these movies not getting a blasted full release? If it hits second place in 300 showings how much would it have got in wide release? Blast it Hollywood!
*sarcastic voice* Because it's a conspiracy involving Hollywood not wanting the public to know that hand drawn animation is still appealing to adults, computer animation is the only medium allowed for American adults.
After hitting second place fathom events is expanding weathering with you to more locations this weekend so check your movie listings!
From box office mojo--
In limited release, after an excellent Wednesday premiere that saw GKids's Weathering with You take the #2 spot at the Wednesday box office, the film will go into 450 locations this weekend. The film has, so far, generated nearly $180 million at the global box office.
Japan using Weathering with you and akira to help japan movies theaters. Kind of surprised they didn't use spirited away, your name, and the one piece, detective conan (who beat the pants off avengers 2 overseas) and doraemon films to help. Frozen, tangled and the original animated alice in wonderland are well liked there also so those might have been good choices.
