We've got a couple at woodsy picnic areas, since all you need is a parking area, space, and a couple billboards.
The old tinny speakers have been replaced by FM and Bluetooth, so there's no need for the old concrete seas of the 50's (along the outside strip of town, where the real estate was more valuable for shopping malls and indoor cineplexes); people can bring their own radios, and families sit out on the lawn with a blanket, mosquitos permitting. You'd think more woodsy suburbs would go for a cheap option for local summer business.
(Let alone that they're already becoming popular again in year-round CA and Texas.)
I love the dumb people over here who haven’t been brought up with the Drive-In experience - it was never a Thing in the UK - who keep referring to them as Drive-Thru Cinemas!
I just keep getting this hilarious image of cars running riot and smashing through the screen! Or maybe they’re just trying to get back to 1885?
Even with some states allowing theatres to open, there is still the question of what will be playing on those screens. I think the drive-ins will do well over the summer.
