They were "shorts" or "cartoons" or "cartoon shorts" last time I looked.
On the cover art...who are those impostor characters? And why should we buy "official" product like this when even the poor PD cover designs are better?
It narks me when even the STUDIOS call them "episodes". These were NOT made for TV...they were stand-alone short films. Some were series shorts, yes, but never "epsiodes", which implies a chronological story order.
TV Shows on DVD wrote:More Looney Tunes...your wish is our command. In this 4-disc set are 60 of the most hysterical Looney Tunes ever created and over 5 hours of extra special features. Indeed, some have never before been on home video! Disc 1 celebrates a duo every bit as famous as thunder and lightning or beans and weenies: Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Termite Terrace provides peerless takes on Fairy Tales in Disc 2. Not to be outdone, Disc 3 showcases the hilarious talent of the great animator Robert Clampett. And the fowl deeds and rabbit-fire jokes wrap with Disc 4's hamboree jamboree of Porky Pig and more classics.
4-Disc Collector Set with 60 classic shorts. Remastered and restored to their original glory and chock full of special features! Over 5 hours of incredible Special Features which include "Chuck Jones: Extremes and In-Betweens, A Life in Animation" the 2000 PBS documentary $64.92, October 30th street date.
Stay tuned for larger cover art, and more details including the list of included shorts and all of the extras!
Cover art has been definitely tweaked...and for the better all right.
I'm peeved that "Extremes And Inbetweens" is in there...that's a VERY nice stand alone disc in no need of replacing. It's obvious that they are starting to scrape the barrel of what to include here even though there are a couple of other docs that are more rare that come to mind:
The Magical World Of Chuck Jones
Happy Birthday Bugs
And we're still waiting for the (valid!) theatrical compilation features "The Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Bunny Movie", "Daffy Duck's Movie, Fantastic Island" and "Daffy Duck's Quackbusters"!!
I figured that original cover was only preliminary. Warner often releases early versions that get re-done later. The new version looks tons better.
This set sounds very promising indeed. I love the idea of fairy tales, Clampett, and more Porkys. And, as I don't have the Jones doc yet, I'll be happy to see it show up here.
Hm, I'm really going to have to buy that Volume 4 set already!!! Looks like DeepDiscountDVD has a good price...
Not really peeved, despite what I said, and for collectors this is essential, but there is a lot more vintage stuff we haven't seen yet as opposed to a recent doc that is very much commercially available with its own extras.
Nice to see more Private SNAFU shorts. Hopefully they're in better shape than the ones I've got on my copy of the long out-of-print Private SNAFU DVD from Bosko. Also nice to see the Hook shorts show hope. I didn't get past Volume One of the LD sets of the Golden Age of Looney Tunes... The Hook shorts were on the last Volume set (Five, I think?) of the Golden Age of Looney Tunes LD sets.
