The animated films for the rest of the year...

Post by Matt »

I know I havn't posted here in forever, but with work, kids, and the rest, I don't have much time to sleep, let alone message boards. I did some research is this all movies coming out the rest of this year?

Battle for Terra – May 1st 2009
Up – May 29th 2009
Ice Age: Dawn of The Dinosaurs - July 1th 2009
9- September 9th, 2009
Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs - September 18, 2009
Astro Boy - October 23rd, 2009.
A Christmas Carol - November 6, 2009
Fantastic Mr. Fox - November 6, 2009.
Planet 51 - November 20, 2009
The Princess and the Frog – December 11th 2009

Am I missing any? Are all the dates right?

I had to sit through uninterrupted trailers for the entire first half of the list (in 3-D!) at a weekend screening of Monsters vs. Aliens:

Terra's design and plot looks like "Dreamworks Does Delgo", Ice Age looks good in 3-D but has running-joke sequelitis (Scrat finds a girlfriend!), "Meatballs" looks just plain removed from the game, and "Up" (the final Pixar trailer, where they finally tell us about the plot and supporting characters!) looked so good I forgot it was in 3-D. :)

If you're looking at hybrids, we have G-Force and Alivn 2 in there too, among a couple of others, Matt.

Nice to see you around...is this info for your own site or are you looking at maybe rejoining us? :)

Hybrids eww! I havn't enjoyed one of thouse since Scooby Doo.

No site, I just try to make it a habit to take my 5 year old to every animated film that comes out, he really enjoyed Monsters vs. Aliens, and was asking when it was coming out on dvd before the film was even half over. We saw a bunch of previews, so the list is more for him then me.

2009 is not as interesting, as The Flight Before Christmas was a perfect way to end 2008.

Ice Age 3 is the only highlight.

"The Flight Before Christmas"... that was only a DTV, unless it got a theatrical release in some areas? :?

Yes, I've seen it, I won't say I hate it, but I didn't find much to like. That flying squirrel or whatever was annoying, I saw the twist a mile away, songs weren't very good, much less the animation. How people say it's better than Rudolph is beyond me. It looked so cute, thank goodness I saw it for free on CBS...

I saw The Flight Before Christmas under a theatrical sneak peek.

Anyway, Meatballs reminds me of the Little Big Adventure games.

Meatballs' design still looks like somebody's attempt to do a solid-CGI version of "Fairly Oddparents". :?

speak for yourself, lol...

I'm not so excited for Ice Age 3, the first Ice Age looked so horrible, I still can't watch it through... never finished it, so never went to see Ice Age 2, might see #3 cuz I have a free pass for the cinema so I can see whatever I want :D

I AM excited for Up, The Princess and the Frog, Ponyo on a Cliff, and A Christmas Carol.

Luc Besson's Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard is set for release in December 09 for France. I'm not sure if the US release date is the same.

Speaking of hybrids, there is They Came from Upstairs. Doesn't Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen fit into this category too since its also dealing with CG character animation?

I'm glad they went ahead with the Arthur sequel, but I doubt it will get a wide US release.

Besson and The Weinstein Company didn't exactly "get on" together during the production of the English-language version.

I'd be surprised if they even looked at picking up the option on this, so Besson will likely look elsewhere. The UK looks to be getting it February 2010.
