Wendy's Jane wrote:Has anyone seen the new trailer? It's basically just clips from the film played alongside quotes from critics talking about how amazing the movie is. It's kinda odd.
Happens to any foreign/indie that's played festivals before release--

As for the humor, Wes' idea to play the animals as George Clooney "Office" executives in fur, is, um...not quite so much Roald Dahl as, say, Willy Wonka or Matilda were.
Take out the indie stop-motion, put it in CGI, and you've got an "Ice Age"/"Horton" Blue Sky movie that thinks children's-book characters are just dressed-up allegorical yuppies.

Interesting behind the scenes article. Apparently, Wes Anderson was rarely ever on the set of the movie:

Not a surprise. He's a live-action director, he can't be doing with hanging around all day to stop-motion animate part of a scene.

As with Tim Burton on Nightmare and Corpse Bride, he has someone run the day-to-day process, while he probably engaged on storyboards, the voice performances and then critiqued the dailies.

Odd that he suggests a non-understanding of stop-motion, after working with Henry Selick on the bugs for The Life Aquatic. :?

Oh... I'm sorry... I won't do it again. Am I forgiven? D:

We saw it today.
Postive:
It was spectacular! Our parents didn't know what to expect. The animation is very nice. Different, but it works. Not a Coraline, but it deservs its own kinda "style".The humor would be more on the level of "adultish". Not in a bad way though. It will just go over the kids heads. The story is fast paced, and not boring at all. Every scene is beautifully crafted and the voice work is great. Seems as if they were real people. Won't give too much away, but Wes has done a very great job! You won't be dissapointed!
And by the way, keep in mind of the lesson of the story. Goes great along with Thanksgiving and to keep in mind everyday, we should always be thankful.

Negative: It might seemed rushed pace wise in some parts, but like I said it works. it just might be fast in some parts for the slower folks. But some rather spend their minds on some gushy teen movie filled with whineing, vampire..sparkly crudola...nevermind.

Bottom line:Its Fantastic! :P
