Actually, that's not quite true.

Best Buy has the DVD listed for release in stores on March 25th. I'll get it then. Best Buy has been pretty good about getting the official non-public domain releases of the Harryhausen films.

**************************************

I thought Hardware Wars was also ungettable in stores, but I recently found a copy on DVD at Media Play.

It's just that some DVDs have really poor distribution.

If all else fails, then we have to go to Amazon.com or the DVD producer.

I can definitely wait on the Harryhausen DVD. It's not something I need right now...

This is also listed on Amazon, is it not??

I'll have to dig deeper and hunt out a copy now that I have some time free! :)

I don't know what's up with this Harryhausen DVD.

The distribution really does seem to be lousy. It looks like you're basically stuck getting it from Amazon.com at the moment.

I'm NOT a big fan of Amazon.com and try to avoid using that service as much as possible.

As much as I DO respect Harryhausen, stop-motion just has never been a big thing with me and I can wait for the disc to arrive next month in stores.

Heck, I waited 5 months for some Disney Treasures sets not long ago...!

Price watch: Amazon.ca is actually listing this disc at 30% off, at $25.26 in Canadian dollars (or about $20US)---- a much better deal than Amazon.com (29.95US)!

Does that come with bi-lingual packaging Rand?

Might be tempted to order mine through Amazon.ca.

It's listed as an import (i.e. coming from the U.S.), so I'm seriously doubting there's any bilingulal packaging. :)

Million Dollar Duck DVD

Post by JustinWilliams » March 31st, 2005, 7:26 am

It beats me why Di$ney is releasing more of their fantastic folly films like my childhood favourite, The Million Dollar Duck, without an ounce of picture restoration or some kind of extras?! I mean - how easy would it have been to find some duck-related features?! The menus are designed for widescreen televisions....Grr...It's not even in it's original theatrical release format! Grr...

I love the look of the menus... shame about the lack of, as you say, extras or picture remaster.

For the record, a lot of Disney's live action films were shot "open matte", and MMD was recently on TV in letterboxed format in the UK. Checking against my VHS copy, the black bars did indeed merely crop the top and bottom of the image.

Therefore, if this is an open matte transfer and not a pan-and-scam of the widescreen print, then this disc will act like a non-anamorphic letterboxed edition - simply zoom in and blow it up to fill a 16x9 display and you'll have very close to the theatrical framing anyway.

The New DVD and Blu Thread

Post by Wonderlicious » August 6th, 2005, 6:19 am

I stole this idea off another forum, so if this seems like deja-vu, it need not be.

The whole point of this thread is to list your latest DVD purchases. It's interesting to see what other people buy (in my opinion), so I thought that it may be a fun thread...

Anyway, my latest DVD purchases were...

The Aristocats
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
-Joe

GIRL: Do you know the way to the Magic Kingdom?
PETER PAN: Sure I do...but can you fly?
-Scary Disney World TV ad circa '71

Geez, I should show my wife Ben's list so she can see that I'm not the only one who buys lots of these things. :)

I buy animation, sci-fi, and a few classics. The last few weeks, there's been:

I Robot SE, Muppet Show (shipping soon), Farscape Starburst editions, Rock and Rule (2-disc), Team America, some Ray Pointer classic animation discs, Steamboy, Danger Mouse, Immortal, Fantastic Four, Lois & Clark, Wonder Woman, Outer Limits box, Twilight Zone seasons, and the final Lost in Space set.

Looking ahead: Simpsons S6, Battlestar Galactica S1, Rocky and Bullwinkle S3, Wizard of Oz (3-disc), King Kong, Star Wars, Fire and Ice, Ben-Hur, Adventures of Superman, Batman Anthology, Batman Begins, Hanna-Barbera sets...

Oh yeah, Rand - I'd be up for those as well, but just can't justify it when I can't say for certain that I'd ever get around to watching them. Out of that list, I've only gone through a handful...

I gave up on Simpsons around season 4, but as for the rest of your "looking ahead" batch, I'm in line for: Wizard of Oz (3-disc), King Kong (torn on the poster-packed edition and the 4-disc), Fire and Ice, Ben-Hur, Batman Anthology...

...don't forget: The Complete Thin Man, Astaire & Rogers, Truman Show, Blues Brothers and Witness SEs, Lilo & Sticth 2, Quick Change, Toy Story 10th, Deer Hunter, The Sting, Hitchhiker's, possibly Chicago, Robots, Star trek Movie Voyages, The Fly, South Park 6, Adventures of Superman, Ferngully, Looney Tunes Golden Collection 3, Looney Tunes Movies, Tales from the Crypt 2...

...and OF COURSE: Cinderella and this year's DISNEY TREASURES!!

Plus I'm sure I've forgotten something! Man, my bank account is gonna feel the strain...! ;)

##### man. I wish I had the money to afford all those movies in one month. THere's so many DVDs I don't have that i want SO. EFFING. BAD.

Anyway, my most recent ones:

The Incredibles
Finding Nemo (FINALLY)
The Brave Little Toaster (FINALL FINALLY)

still OH. SO. MANY. that I want.

Like, for instance, the first season of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Only one of the greatest shows in the history of everything.

Just bought Batman: The Animated Series Volume 3 yesterday (I don't have the others but I think this one has the best eps PLUS commentary on three episodes!)

The Simpsons: Season 5 (can't wait for Season 6)
Treehouse of Horror Simpsons
The Sopranos: Season 1 (I LOOOOOOVE the Sopranos but I stopped watching about halfway through Season 4. Seasons 1 and 3 are the best IMO)
Love Actually
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (fullscreen....blah. :x I didn't know that when I bought it. I love the film though, never saw it before.)
12 Monkeys
Ma Vie en Rose (my life in pink)
Swimming with Sharks
The Virgin Suicides
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
Joseph: King of Dreams (I will treasure this film forever! )

Even though it was this past May....Donnie Darko. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie. (It's the director's cut, and even though I've never seen the original theatrical version, judging from what I've read I think this is better.)

The Fly--1986 (technically it was a VHS, but I hope to get the re-issue DVD when it comes out. When I first bought it I had to return it because when I opened up the box it was the '58 version instead!)
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!
