I think I echo everyone here when I say:Randall wrote:I.... have never seen Jaws.
Well, hey, I've never seen it either--
Was too chicken as a kid, and after that, it was one of those movies you felt you'd already seen just from hearing every single line and scene quoted in pop culture.
Me, I'm just waiting for the rumor that Universal was planning to announce the Complete Boxset later, including...drumroll...'83's Jaws 3-D IN Blu 3D!!
(Which we're hoping will spearhead the movement for getting more "Golden and Silver Age" 50's and 80's 3D onto disk, and we won't have to watch all that Sony and Dreamworks CGI crap.
)
It's supposedly on the schedule for August, but Universal's getting the big announcement out of the way first.

I know what you mean about feeling like you've seen a movie through lines and such. I feel that way about Star Wars and Pshyco.
Jaws 3D? Woo hoo!

Don't get excited; I think he's talking about the awful third film, which was shown in theaters using classic red and blue lenses in the 80s.

Well, depending on what country you were in, it wasn't:Dacey wrote:Don't get excited; I think he's talking about the awful third film, which was shown in theaters using classic red and blue lenses in the 80s.
Most all 80's 3D was in polarized, and so was the 50's--Red/blue was only used later, for revival prints, television, VHS/DVD, and small independent markets where they couldn't use the reflective screen needed for polarized.
But who cares if it's an off-topic Dennis Quaid stinker, it's 80's 3D in the manner it was intended, woohoo!
There's also rumors that George Feltenstein at Warner is a big supporter of getting vintage 3D onto Blu, that Dial M for Murder is one of Warner's big flagship experiments for the summer/fall, and House of Wax and Kiss Me Kate (and Lumber Jack-Rabbit and Ace of Space) are "in the works". But somebody's got to get the big press headlines first.

Crap. Even if the 3D was amazing, I'll never buy that movie for ANY reason.Dacey wrote:Don't get excited; I think he's talking about the awful third film, which was shown in theaters using classic red and blue lenses in the 80s.

The only good Jaws movie is the first one... forget about the rest!
Anyhow, news on Studio Ghibli releases later this year --- in Japan.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... d-in-japan
Two anime films at different ends of the emotional spectrum are being released on July 18th individually ($88 each) and a box set ($175). My Neighbor Totoro, arguably the sweetest and most life-affirming film in the Ghibli library, and Grave of the Fireflies -- widely considered one of the most emotionally draining animated films to sit through(!) -- are polar opposites and an odd choice to pair together on a release date!

Re: The New DVD and Blu Thread
Actually, they were originally released theatrically on a double bill, so this makes sense. Still, it was always an odd pairing.
