Marvel on Netflix

Post by Dan » June 21st, 2014, 1:15 am

In case you haven't heard, it was announced in October 2013 that Marvel signed a deal with Netflix to produce original television shows for the streaming service. The result was four 13-episode shows and a mini-series. The shows would be connected with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though will concentrate on the street-level heroes of the Marvel Universe.

First up in 2015 will be Daredevil. Marvel reclaimed the rights from Fox when they failed to go through with their attempt to reboot the series. Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) conceived the series and serves as executive producer with Steven S. DeKnight (Starz' Spartacus franchise) as showrunner. Starring as Matt Murdock/Daredevil with be Charlie Cox (Stardust, Boardwalk Empire). Playing Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin will be Vincent D'Onofrio (Men in Black, Law & Order: Criminal Intent). Just recently, it was announced that Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Rent) has been cast in a "top secret" role (many are already wondering if she's playing Elektra).

Next will be Jessica Jones, the former little-known Avenger turned private investigator created by Brian Michael Bendis. Serving as writer and executive producer is Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter, Twilight). Casting news has yet to be made.

After that will be Iron Fist and then Luke Cage. The mini-series will bring the four heroes together as The Defenders.
