Has anyone else here heard of Disney/Jim Henson's Little Mermaid's Island? Saw this footage for the first time today:

Heard of, no, but looks like Disney's first collaboration with Henson, in '89-'90 (back when HA was still using puppets and not CGI)
Seems like a pilot that was later turned down in favor of the Mermaid animated series, but the idea of a Henson collaboration was saved for the puppet stage show at the Disney Studios park.

Wow. I had never heard of this. Neat. But no hard feelings that it never made it to series.

While it's quite elaborate it does seem quite confused, which is why it probably didn't happen. I knew about this, but only so far as a "Disney and Henson teamed on an abandoned idea based on The Little Mermaid" reference I read somewhere some time ago. Interesting but easy to see why it didn't get made.
