- Legendary comic book artist and DC co-publisher Jim Lee will host a How To session on illustrating. But the real fun is the embarrassment he receives from daughters asking personal questions like having money to buy a bra and his mother demanding he give her whatever it is he's drawing.

- Tim Kring will preview the return of Heroes with Heroes Reborn alongside the cast of the new series.

---

And this is just the highlights of the programming list. There's a heck a lot more going on with who will be doing autographs, off-site events, and more.

Phew...every year since 2008 I check the lists and lament that I can't get there, and every year I hope that there isn't *too* much that I will be unhappy at missing.

This year, while there's tons of lovely things happening that anyone would want to be a part of, I can honestly say that it wouldn't otherwise be a banner year for me personally.

Sure, I'd like to be there to pick up some unexpected stuff and meet unexpected people, but knowing I can't doesn't have me as disappointed as it might.

No doubt someone will be sharing their experiences, though? ;)

Honestly, you should come write for us officially...

Hey guys, here's my brief report from Preview Night.

I spent a good deal hanging out at the Disney Infinity Pop-Up station on the opposite side of Petco Park parallel to the Convention Center. This turned out to be a fun preview of what's to come in 3.0 as we were given a chance to demo levels from the Twilight of the Force, Rise Against the Empire, and Inside Out playsets. I enjoyed trying out Ahsoka in the Twilight playset and got an idea of how to handle the X-Wing in the Rise playset. It was quite thrilling. Playing the demos at least once nets you a free lithograph of concept art and it's my understanding that there will be a different lithograph each day. Participating in this interactive photo op, where you are placed in a digital setting of your choice with an Infinity character of your choice, nets you one free 3.0 figurine between Mickey, Quorra, Sadness, Yoda, and Sabine. I picked Sabine because I like Rebels. And by pre-ordering 3.0 there at the station, you get the Vader figurine for free. So I'm already up two figures!

Made it in late to the exhibit hall, so I didn't get a whole lot of time to do stuff. Nevertheless, I managed to get a few pick-ups. From the UDON booth, I picked up four of the six Con exclusive hardcovers, one of which is the AKIMAN edition of the Street Fighter 25 book, allowing me entry into AKIMAN's autograph signing on Saturday. I stopped by Chris Sanders' booth and he had a novel on sale called Rescue Sirens. He didn't have any new sketchbooks this year, as he's been busy with other projects, but noted that he was planning on putting together a comprehensive sketchbook that would include new sketches sometime in the future. I ended the day with a trip to J. Scott Campbell's booth to pick up the lithograph of his cover to Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #1 along with a black and white cover copy of the book itself. Got him to sign the lithograph and got my picture with him, which I kept forgetting to do for years. While waiting in line, we learned that he was finally doing a new fairy tale calendar for 2016, which is scheduled to be released end of summer beginning of fall.

My ability to get wi-fi connection appears to have suddenly been limited, so the video logs may not be up in time as I hoped. Nevertheless, I'll still try to get some reports in when possible.

Here's me Day One report. As noted, I have WiFi issues so I know I'm a little late, as are my video logs.

I swung into the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront and caught the tail end of an interesting panel with writer Grant Morrison on exploring the influence of all forms of mythology in super hero books and his current attempt to launch an Indian hero to Western audiences.

This turned into a fun segue into the panel proper I was attending, the screening of the upcoming Pixar short Sanjay's Super Team, which will be playing in front of The Good Dinosaur in November we. The short was a beauty with a touching story about differing generations and the cultures they inhabit along with wonderful, vibrant colors. They did a nice behind-the-scenes presentation afterwards with concept art, director Sanjay Patel doing his pitch of the original version of the story with storyboards, animation tests with reference footage, and store. There was even a trivia contest where winners got books that Sonjay had published. Following a second screening of the short was the Q&A, which I participated in, which netted me a great poster of the film. A great panel that was just oodles of fun.

Instead of trying to do both the Gravity Falls panel and autograph signing, I got in line early for the autograph signing. This was a good call as the line was already filling up when I got there an hour before the signing was to start and it was capped a little half-an-hour later by the time the panel was done. As a result of the line being super packed, Alex Hirsch, Kristen Schaal, and the others would have to speed sign, thereby no personalizing of the autographs. While waiting I had done a sketch and thought about getting them to sign that, but I felt there wasn't enough space for them to do so. So they signed the poster Disney was handing out, but Kristen was kind enough to convince the others, and me, to also get my sketch signed. Such a lovely woman. I managed to get a word in to Alex about the influence the show was now having on my brother's work I had to move out of the way for others.

With some free time, I managed to get some additional autographs and pictures. First one I got was from EG Daily. Another lovely woman, she had noted to a fan that as he would be launching a voice coaching seminar through Amazon in a few weeks. Details would be found at her website, easily.com. I then got to meet Clerks stars Brian O'Halloran and Marilyn Ghigliotti. Brian made mention of the lamenting they had of the animated series not going to UPN as originally planned as they a whole 12-episode season ready to be commissioned before Disney, owning Miramax at the time, stepped in. They were fun people to meet.

I killed a couple hours before heading over to the Ernest Cline signing at the Penguin Publishing booth. This become a slightly chaotic moment in lining up as Ernie is a highly regarded geek champion and they were giving out free copies of Ready Player One for him to sign. Like the Gravity Falls signing, it was pretty much a sign and go set-up, all the more so with there being only an hour before the Exhibit Hall was to close. I manages to get in a quick thanks to Ernie and a mention of art imitating life with regards to the debate of whether or not Ladyhawke was a good movie.

I left the Convention Center to drop off stuff and get dinner before returning to check out the panel that was previewing the forthcoming documentary on Disney legend Floyd Norman. The teaser of the film they showed was fantastic and has me really looking forward to the whole thing. But the panel was just as great. Along with Floyd were his wife, his long-time partner Leo Sullivan, Gary Trousdale, Paul Dini, Tom Sito, and more. The panel was just a celebration of Floyd, hearing stories from him and about him. Though we were a couple weeks late, we nonetheless sang him Happy Birthday to cap of the panel. I got to meet up with Gary afterward to express my admiration for Atlantis: The Lost Empire to his delight. We heard that he's been moved over to DreamWorks' theme park attractions division and is overseeing a new shriek attraction.

That's Day One in the books. We'll see how Day Two goes.

Day Two is pretty much in the books for me. Here's the rundown of what I experienced.

I went to the Exhibit Hall early because I wanted to nab tickets to the Ash vs Evil Dead signing later in the day. I made it just as the line at the Starz booth was capped. However, I found out that it was a lottery style drawing and there were only fifteen tickets left. Given the amount of people in line, I decided I couldn't take the chance and bailed.

I made it to a good enough spot in line for the My Little Pony panel, I actually think I was in the same spot in line last year. They let us in with a good 45 minutes before the panel proper started so the room girl took the mic to help kill time. It was a great set up in which the sound guy messed with songs to playing up her name and something goofy she might be talking about. The audience joined in to play around with her, asking her to list her favorite Doctor (which she refused to do), what was on her Netflix queue, and more. It was very jubilant and adds to the flair of Comic Con.

The My Little Pony panel proper started with a clip of tomorrow's episode, which finds Princess Luna experiencing a bad dream (which in her case is a happy ending to a dream). Of the cast, only Andrea Libman and Ashleigh Ball (making her Comic Con debut) showed, but made the most of it. At one point they were asked to voice their characters on a car trip to Comic Con, so we had Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Applejack commenting about the trip and then for fun Lyra and Bon Bon were thrown in. Meghan McCarthy, a month into her new role as Head of Storytelling at Hasbro, arrived with a cast (pink one as it were) on her leg, but soldiered on. They announced that season six was in the process of being made while showing off storyboards to what's coming up in season five, such as the return of a notable antagonist (Starlight Glimmer) and what some of the crew have joking picked out as the new "Frozen" anthem for the show, performed by guest star Lena Hall (Tony Award winner for Hedwig and the Angry Inch). They also aired the trailer for the next Equestria Girls special Friendship Games and even noted that there's a true MLP: Friendship is Magic movie in the works. Most of the fan questions related to the much beloved 100th episode and the desire to see more stories with the background ponies.

I had planned to meet Nancy Cartwright during the day, but she was taking a lunch break. Though I was only in line for a few minutes, I decided to step out to see the Disney Animators: The Power of 2D panel. This turned out to be a good call because the panel became packed. I was going to take one of four open seats when a man asked if I was going to take that one. That man was Tom Bancroft and with him included other animators like his brother Tony and Floyd Norman. Naturally, I told Tom they could take the seats and managed to find one behind them. Turned out that sitting behind me was Rick Farmiloe and he was up for doing sketches for folks sitting with him, which included a pair of squealing Little Mermaid fangirls. So I managed to get a Scuttle sketch from him as well.

Present on the panel proper where Willie Ito, Dale Baer, Randy Haycock, Tom Sito, and Mike Polvani as they talked about how important traditional animation remains at Disney, whether it is making actual 2D films or applying their expertise and training to the CG animators to help them make the animation be more like the Disney films of old. It was quite an informative panel and very much pushed how the 2D animators are finding themselves having to take the type of teaching mantle the 9 Old Men had for them towards the new generation of animators. After the panel I managed to get Randy to do a quick sketch of Kida, even though he had not drawn her in quite some time. Still looked good to me.

After getting autographs from Mindy Sterling and the cast of Star vs. The Forces of Evil, I headed in line to get into the Ash vs. Evil Dead panel. While waiting, I got interviewed by a video crew from Starz, so I just might pop up in some promotion material for the show. The Ash vs. Evil Dead panel was as ruckus and awesome as I could have imagined with Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi cutting loose in the same room along with Lucy Lawless. They showed the first true trailer for the show and announced that premiere will be Halloween night. Just a lot of great joking around by everyone on stage and at one point Bruce hosted an impromptu Ash cosplay contest that was won by a girl. The Q&A was also as fun with Bruce living up to his threat at one point that if someone from the official Q&A line asked a stupid question he'd compensate by finding a better one from the audience. I was crying with laughter throughout the panel.

Tomorrow is the big Saturday of Comic Con, so I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to throw in the report or the next video log.

Day Three is in the books for me.

I got into the Marvel Animation panel, though I missed the majority of their preview of the next season of Avengers Assemble. I caught the preview for how season three of Ultimate Spider-Man will end, with the Contest of Champions story arc, as well as previewing the next season's Sinister Six plot. It was announced that next season would see Agents Simmons and Fitz fro Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. show up and Zola will be voiced by Mark Hamill. Guardians of the Galaxy was then highlighted, with the proper one-hour premiere being on September 26, though the first part will get an advanced screening on September 5. And then they showed that first part to the Comic Con audience. The pilot was a nice balance of what was familiar from the movie and elements of the comics being incorporated. The Q&A saw the panel wanting more kids to ask questions and they thought one girl dressed as Ms. Marvel (the current incarnation in the books) was so adorable they added her to their panel. Very sweet.

Immediately after was the ever famous Quick Draw, hosted by Mark Evanier and featuring Sergio Aragones. Fellow regular Scott Shaw could not attend this year as he recently suffered a shattered ankle and is currently bed-ridden. Original third man Floyd Norman was promoted to second man for the year and Mike Kazaleh stepped in to fill the third man role. Despite the lack of Scott, we still got a great deal of Sergio and Mark banter along with great illustrations. A running theme during this year was Sergio drawing himself running in fear of something with Mark throwing out different things he is running from. Early in the program, Mark called Scott, placing the phone the mic so everyone could hear. During this, the artists illustrated what they thought Scott would be doing while he recovered. No words could do justice to the hilarious fun to be had attending the Quick Draw and needs to be checked out any time one manages an opportunity to.

The only other program I attended today was screening the annual Masquerade costume contest from the Sails Pavilion. The costumes were decent enough, though there were a number of stand-outs. A fun stand-out was portraying what the Star Wars panel the previous night must've really been liked as a musical with JJ Abrams being crowned "King of the Force". There was a great Big Hero 6 showcase and there was a fun bit where some of the Disney Princesses engaged in "Waltz 101" mixing the typical waltz music with modern pop songs like "Call Me Maybe" and "Happy". The winners will be announced much later tonight and then revealed in the daily newsletter updates in the morning.

Will try to get a video log up tomorrow at some point. But that's it for the brief reports and the last day will be spent in the Exhibit Hall with my niece. A full on written report of the overall Comic Con experience will be forthcoming.
