Sounds like this could actually pick up after Logan, which would be pretty cool. Then this series could follow that timeline and the movies...well, the movies could just go on dong whatever it is they're doing, I guess.

Which reminds me...I still have all of Legion on my DVR to catch up on...!

Never got a chance to watch that one. (Waiting so I can eventually stream it.). Is it any good? Just curious. :)

Apparently James Macavoy won't be appearing in the New Mutants spin-off...though I assume he'll still be in Dark Pheonix (the article doesn't specify).

OK mixed feelings about this...(if it's even true.). Much as I loooooove Fassbender I can't help but wonder what could possibly be left to talk about when it comes to Magneto?? I really think we've seen enough of him by now! :? There are so many other stories available to filmmakers from the comics but for some reason they keep returning to this one! Kinberg has said they're definitely going to bring on Sinister eventually but when exactly is that? Ahhh so frustrating. *Sigh*

Plus as far as I remember, comic-book wise anyway, Magneto isn't even in the Pheonix Saga (yeah, I know he was in The Last Stand but most fans of the cartoon/comics don't exactly count that as canon.)

Fassbender himself seems to suggest that he'll be back for Dark Pheonix.

Again, mixed feelings. He's an amazing actor, I just hope that there'll be another villain in the picture too.

Also, it's been confirmed that some of the First Class characters will be returning, and assumed that the "young" X-Men from Apocalypse will be as well (Cyclops, Jubilee, Nightcrawler, Quicksilver, Storm).

It may not have broken records but Apocalypse didn't do too shabbily; more than 500 million international and domestic isn't exactly a bomb. :? I don't think Fox would have greenlit the Pheonix sequel if they didn't think these characters and stories had potential. (Or kept Bryan Singer on the payroll with The Gifted.)

And of course Logan got almost all rave reviews; Jackman may not be coming back to the series but the huge box office this film grossed showed that audience members are still interested in these stories (technically it was an X-Men movie, with Professor X and Caliban, so in my opinion this series still has quite a few fans left.)
There's also the New Mutans film and X-Force in the works, plus Gambit (even though it's currently stuck in development hell, but still coming along.). I wouldn't write off X-Men yet! :)
