Though I haven't seen many of these (and some have yet to even be released in North Am), I would think that Coco has to be the favourite.

A few of these, particularly the foreign films, may prove to be better, but Pixar likely has a lock on this.

Of course, since it's Pixar! ;)

Surely it's gotta be Cars 3, though, right? ;) ;)

I'm glad to see a the very sweet, charming and touching Ethel & Ernest in there, though, and would hope to see Loving Vincent in the shortlist just because of its extraordinary production techniques.

Personally, I think Cinderella The Cat is a shoo-in! ;) ;) ;)

Interesting that My Little Pony wasn't submitted for consideration or Ballerina (Leap!). The latter may be due to the Weinstein saga though.

From what I've heard, Hasbro has apparently been none too happy with how Lionsgate has handled the film, particularly when it to marketing, which ended up falling almost entirely on the shoulders of merchandise. Lionsgate also bizarrely released the film on a fraction of the screens an animated movie normally gets.

I've heard nothing "official," mind you, so much as I've heard from "people in the know," but I don't think it's a coincidence that Hasbro has left Lionsgate for Paramount for all future animated releases for the time being. Then again, My Little Pony is easily Hasbro's biggest animated property, so I'm not sure where they'll go for their next time anyway.

In any case, I'm not sure if Lionsgate even cares about how their animated films do in theaters at this point, considering how poorly they've handled them, and I don't expect for Early Man to do any better in the states than their others have. But not submitting your film in the animated feature category never makes sense, especially since Pony fared better with critics than Smurfs, Emoji and almost certainly The Star (all of which are in the race).

I'm predicting Coco is the only explicitly American animated feature to get nominated in this category this year. Loving Vincent and The Breadwinner will also get nominated, and then two more GKIDS films (I'm thinking Ethel & Ernest and The Girl Without Hands) make it in.

But hey, prove me wrong Ferdinand....

Seems to me like there's a whole lot of "meh" on this list. More so than most recent years, anyway. The one outstanding that I really WANT to see is "... Witch's Flower." Though I agree with the previous poster, probably "Ferdinand" will win.

Yes, so much "meh" in the American films this year. Agreed. Big box office, perhaps; but still, lots of "meh." :(
