This seems like a good time to bring some attention to "Milton Mouse"--the OG rip-off of Mickey.

Those teeth tho.

Early animation is littered with Mickey clones, of course, but Milton is perhaps the least sincere form of flattery! ;)

But from now on I’m just going to consider all the Mickey riffs versions of this, and not Mr Mouse himself. :)

Ironically, Pete is the only one who looks like he’s from Steamboat Willie! Mickey and Minnie are missing the thinner rubber hose look of that time.

I’d be more impressed with this Randy Milholland if he came up with his own, original characters…

They still don’t look like the Willie designs, and why is Mickey on "Winkler Street" over ten years before he was created (and had nothing to do with Winkler, or Mintz)…?

Kinda no point until they can use the authentic colors, no? ;)

And Colorization still looks like Colorization… :)

If Disney itself had done this years ago, we'd all be bemoaning the fact and disregarding it in favor of it being a black and white cartoon that was created in black and white and should be seen in black and white. Walt only ever made two color updates to earlier cartoons; he didn't remake Steamboat Willie or ask for it to be redrawn in color (with different colors). Despite being an "interesting" theoretical exercise, it’s still disrespectful to the original intention and, as I say, had Disney done this when they digitally cleaned it up there would have been an outcry. Weird standards thesedays…

:) :)

Or it’s just a cool fan project that is clearly being made with a lot of affection and effort?

I don’t think it’s weird standards to say it’s cool and certainly not disrespectful in any way (at the very least I certainly don’t think it’s intended that way). And speaking for myself, I guess, I personally wouldn’t care if Disney did the same thing.

Like I think we can all relax about this. At least it’s not another “Mickey Mouse, but he kills people” film. :)

I suppose just let them get it all out of their systems, then it’ll all just be forgotten, along with all the other PD characters that don’t get the same attention…! ;)
