And so, another "art" director who was hired to do an "alternative" take on the franchise because he didn't really care about comic books, and had a breakout critical hit from press critics and grownups who don't watch too many of them in the first place, has been appointed new Chief Executive Messiah and Savior of Warner/DC, whether he wanted the job or not...

...Sorry, Chris Nolan, that's show biz.

Joker is a fine movie, but it relies so heavily on Joaquin Phoenix's performance to carry a weak script and fairly bland direction. Todd Phillips is not the guy that should be an advisor.

To be fair, the article says he would be more of a creative advisor since he's not well versed on the DC universe. And it doesn't even sound like he was actually brought in, just that he was considered.

Oh, geez…this is one seriously self-spiralling mess. I bet WB are just loving this publicity…

As for the Black Adam trail…not what I was expecting. Now that looks like a barrel o' laughs, right?

Career gone in a Flash... The parents aren’t any better, though.

Man, the color grading on that trailer...

I'm still not sure what to expect of Black Adam. Still seems like a weird concept for a film. I love the JSA, and Brosnan is a great choice for Kent Nelson, but I don't know what to make of it all.

Even though I've almost mastered the art of telling Dwayne Johnson apart from Vin Diesel (Johnson is the one with a functioning sense of humor), this still looks more like the kind of project that would go to Diesel.
Ie., a real barrel o' laughs. :?

As for why this movie was made, it's a throwback to the days when Warner used to think they could roll out their DCEU piece by piece, Marvel-style, one feature piece of canon info at a time, and they couldn't do the Shazam movie or the sequel until the villain had his contractually obligated movie.
Nowadays, they throw anything at the wall that sticks, but a promise is a promise--Key word being "Contractual".
