Over 45 million in the US so far. Never did get a chance to remark on the 2nd place milestone what with all the nonsense, but I'm happy for it. Although I am sad Pokémon 2000 got bumped down. It's very near and dear to me. (shock!) The Donna Summers song alone is iconic.

So nostalgic and uplifting.

And like Zack Snyder's Justice League, still no disc release date for the US.

I'm thinking an announcement will be made next week when it comes out on digital. Think of the trinkets that could possibly be offered! To no surprise, it's already breaking records on physical media over in Japan!

We still have DVD stores. Rental stores? Not unless you count Redbox.

And I’ve recently started watching DS and have been very much enjoying it.

Gaastra, when they say "DVD", do they literally mean the standard definition discs, or disc sales as a medium?

I know quite often the term "DVD" is used to describe all discs to most people, regardless of what format is actually printed on the disc, be it DVD, Blu-ray or Blu-ray 4K.

I mean, almost a million units in a day is an incredible amount, but I can’t see that they would all be the standard def discs when Japan is so forward thinking about BDs especially…?

DVD and blu-rays.
The Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train anime has sold 1,074,170 copies total of its Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases in Japan (including both the limited and regular editions) in only three days since it debuted on Wednesday.

On the first day of the home video release, it sold 268,490 limited-edition and 201,895 regular-edition Blu-ray Discs, and 115,499 limited-edition and 218,195 regular-edition DVDs for a total of 804,079 discs. In one day, it garnered the highest one-week Blu-ray Disc and DVD sales so far this year.

On the second day, it sold 30,007 limited-edition and 50,881 regular-edition Blu-ray Discs, and 20,751 limited-edition and 71,507 regular-edition DVDs for a total of 173,146 discs.

On the third day, it sold 12,549 limited-edition and 33,609 regular-edition Blu-ray Discs, and 8,609 limited-edition and 42,178 regular-edition DVDs for a total of 96,945 discs.

Neat thing about japan video rentals is other then movies and games you can rent cds and mangas also!

Here is a video of one.

We still have DVD stores. Rental stores? Not unless you count Redbox.
Ours have died in our city and wal-mart and target gutted 90% of the dvd area. Japan digital copies didn't take off so dvd is still a big thing there.

Pretty cool that the BD numbers are around the same as DVD but, yeah, I gotcha that "DVD" refers to the medium, encompassing all disc formats. :)
