Yep, I remember being in a theater full of moms and kids thinking they were going to see another stop-motion "James & the Giant Peach"...
Should be interesting to see the same mistake played out on a national scale.

It got an arthouse release, being a weird, uncalled-for, preciously-smug Wes Anderson indie.

And, again, it didn't occur to an audience of Dahl-loving kids or indie-ignoring moms WHY it was playing an arthouse...
Until the track-suits started showing up, and every other line was "Cussin'" this or that because Wes never knew how to write real dialogue for commercial PG audiences.
