Yeah, the way it was played out at the time was that Spock WAS dead (and for a while Nimoy thought it would be that way too.) Audiences were very sad and some fans were upset as well.

...It's funny: Nimoy didn't want to be in 1, but he appeared anyway. He didn't want to be in 2 but he did anyway, mostly so he could "go out in a blaze of glory."

But then Nimoy signed a contract to direct ST III and ST IV and appear as Spock, so...as we've been saying, money talks and ******* walks!


But when they were actually making the Wrath of Kahn, they weren't 100% sure if they would bring Spock back but Paramount (meaning Eisner) wanted to have some kind of hint that he might come back. :wink:

Makes one wonder why they killed off Kirk in "Generations".

And you have to remember that Kahn was all back in the good days of Paramount when Eisner wasn't on the Dark Side. He and JK also sheperded the first two Raiders movies and many more.
