Looks like I missed a good thread :( oh we'll. At least now I'm one of you guys, bwahaha :? (Halloween j/k)

And traditional animation is 'trying' to make a comback. For all we know, it might flip flop, but I certantly wouldn't want that

Come on 2d!! :P

DreamWorks and Aardman confirm split

:(

One can't help but wonder if this wasn't because "Flushed Away" wasn't given an Oscar nod. That may have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

That's really too bad. Wonder who Aardman's gonna go with now?

Since this has come so close after the Oscar noms, it's pretty clear that they were waiting to see if Flushed Away could at least bring home some awards consideration before confirming the split.

Some Academy notice might have added a bit to the bottom line takings and kept them together for at least one last movie.

Ahh well, not that this is a surprise at all... ;)

Here is the original last paragraph of our article. I've decided to edit it a bit for tact, but the truth of the statement still stands.
The companies have clamped down on rumors of a split in the past several months. At a ASIFA-Hollywood Q&A session the week Flushed Away opened, the directors quashed talk of a split. The few times Animated News has mentioned it, DreamWorks and Aardman have assured us there was no truth to it and that we were hurting our credibility by reporting it.

As I said in the chat room when DWA was shut out of the Oscars:

"I'm....not....happy, Bob."

:P

********************************************

But yeah....I was pretty upset when I read that. :( :(

I kept hoping maybe it wasn't REALLY true, or maybe they changed their minds....? :?

I'm sad.

Again.

**************************************************

Sooooooo.....what's next for Aardman? Are they going to look for another distributor?

Is DW going to aquire another small studio?

You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

Both companies will be fine. DW is adding an additional year to their production schedule. Big plus for them. Aardman has a proven track record in America now (and an Oscar). Big plus for them when signing a contract with a new distributor.

They weren't pissed. I think they were unhappy it was coming out when Flushed Away was just opening. And by mentioning our credibility it preyed on our desire to be responsible reporters.

Maybe I sound too hopeful, but what are the chances of them signing a deal with Disney? That would be awesome - three of my favorite film studios, all together, working in three different mediums! :D

Wow, that WOULD be interesting. :)

But didn't Disney go after them a lot during the 90s, both during and after K's tenure?

They finally chose to go with DW, but I guess that didn't work out the way they expected

Here's an interesting article on the split, it mentions some of what we've talked about: meaning Peter Sallis possibly being replaced, how Helena and Ralph got in the film

You can tell they lay the blame on DW. So does another article.

*Sighs" I knew this would happen.... :(

As if DW needed something ELSE to make people dislike them..... :?

Disney was more an object of intense ridicule when the let Pixar go. With DW, it's worse I think. And no greedy Steve Jobs to share part of the blame either. :(

Disney would be awesome! But, I'm not getting my hopes up high, though it would be nice.

Claymation, 2d, and CG! How sweet would that be? :D

Btw, cheer up, Vi. :)
