Covers for Mighty Joe Young and Son of Kong up at http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents

God, they look ugly... The Batman serial (1943) cover looks a lot better even if it's NOT representative of the final film!

I like the covers. They are the original movie posters, after all. I wish more studios would use those, rather than creating new "head shot" pieces for everything. The Batman one is cool, too.

King Kong remake

Post by ShyViolet »

I can't wait for this movie even though I guess it's like 3 months away.
I LOVED the previews I saw with WOTW and Fantastic Four.

Jack Black looks like he's going to be really good. Ditto Naomi Watts. (Coolest actress ever.)

It might have been interesting if Gore Verbinski (The Ring and Pirates) were directing this movie but I'm glad it's Peter Jackson. But if Gore directed it you could say that he directed TWO films based on a ride (King Kong is also a ride at Universal.) Of course I know that it was a movie back in 1933 (I've seen about half of it on TV and really liked it). The Simpsons does a very good homage to it in "King Homer".

Lenny: "Where're we going?"
Carl: "Ape Island."
Lenny: "What do they have there?"
Carl:"Giant Apes."
Lenny: "I wish we were going to Candy Apple Island."
Carl: "Why, what do they have there?"
Lenny:"Apes. But they're not so big."

Barney: "Wow, look at the size of that platform!"

The King Kong ride is OK but I think the new movie will be better!

Yeah, I can't wait for this too. If it's half as good as the LOtR series, it'll be amazing. :D

Well, his career is still young, and it could be argued that he will have, in fact, directed THREE films based on a ride by the time he completes Pirates III!

Okay, so they're the same ride, but...

Peter Jackson's King Kong

Yep, it's going to be a VERY interesting Christmas season!

I predict Kong will probably still be champ at the box office but it's questionable about how profitable the film will be in theatrical distribution. Considering a production cost of $200 million (NOT counting advertising and marketing at this point in time I believe), the film will have to gross well over $600 million JUST TO BREAK EVEN!

I think the original 1933 film (releasing for the first time on DVD in the US in late November) ran under 2 hours.

Peter Jackson is taking a massive gamble with a 3-hour theatrical cut and financing most of the film's overages from his own pocket.

On the other hand, I have to applaud Jackson's production diaries for the film. It's the best AND SMARTEST PR I've seen a film production company pull off in a LONG time.

There's no question Peter Jackson has taken the mantle of film geekdom's head guru away from both Steven Spielberg and George Lucas who have become sorely out-of-touch with their fanbases. Jackson also proved to the mainstream with The Lord of the Rings trilogy that he's not a fluke and flake like many directors (aka the Michael Bays and McG's in Hollywood now).

Hopefully, Kong will not prove to be his "1941"...

Peter Jackson is so awsome.

He's going to be executive producer in Halo, too.

Good Lord! This is incredible news. Great news, yes, but a little shocking.

"King Kong" is going to rock, rock, rock, rock, rock!

It's on the cover of MAD. Some really good jokes about this film as well as Harry Potter and Chicken Little!
