Hoodwinked
Animated Overseas
I was surprised to find that this animated film was animated in the Philippines! I just skipped through the 22-minute feature and the actors are all praising the animation and the amount of work that these artists are putting into the film. (They really are good actors, I almost believed them!) The Director mentioned that the animators had a hard time finding the film funny, and understanding the humor, which is strange because I have a hard time finding the situation funny either. The featurette also interviews the co-directors who mention that they really had no prior animation experience. *Kough, kough!* Ok whatever, I don't know why I'm so emotional about this independent breakthrough, but I guess it's because they are taking so much pride to a cheezy film. Ah well, they're the ones making money, not me-- so whatever.
By the way, they mentioned that they wanted a "stop motion" feel to the film. Yeah right! I'm an animator and I know that when something is difficult to animate in the computer, it's because the animator is either untalented, or the director has no idea about the true fundamentals of animation. If you take a look at the short films that are out there like "9" for example, you see some excellent animation and story, don't tell me these guys deserve praise, I know they could have done a lot better.

Hoodwinked is out.
what are your thoughts on Hoodwinked. reviews are saying it is good.
Just got back from seeing it. I was very pleasantly surprised! The animation was as expected, but the story was really good and the voice acting was great. Even the music was good, though a little too many loud rock songs. With all the other aspects coming together so well, you can really forget the TV-quality animation and get caught up in the film.
Final thoughts:
Corpse Bride - great animation, poor story
Chicken Little - ok animation, ok story
Hoodwinked - poor animation, great story
If, as Pixar always says, story is the most important thing I'd strongly consider giving Hoodwinked the third Oscar nomination (with W&G and Madagascar). If Brother Bear and Shark Tale are worthy of a nomination this is too.

I never said it would or wouldn't! I think Madagascar and Wallace and Gromit are locks. The third nom I assumed would go to either Chicken Little or Corpse Bride.
