Why not? They have made some very good movies, and they have a lot of talented people over there. There ARE other studios besides Pixar around, you know.

I know that there are other studios.
I love the work of Aardman, Gibhli and Disney.
Shrek 1 was a great movie, no question. But Dreamworks just is too much fluffy-puffy 'Let's put funny characters in it! With a moral! Oooh, the shark/ogre wasn't supposed to do this, but we have to put the fairy in it!!!And a super-duper movie will it do!'
Examples: Shrek 2, Shark Tale and Over the Hedge.

For me, DreamWorks' movies fall into two, maybe three camps.

Though mostly comedy, there are the real ones with heart: Prince Of Egypt, Shrek, Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit, Spirit.

There are the straight funny comedies: Over The Hedge, Antz, hopefully Bee Movie.

And then there are the noisy, flashy and ultimately empty near disasters: Shark Tale, Madagascar, Sinbad.

I know none of you will agree, but get where I'm coming from?

I see some of your points Ben, but even though I liked Sinbad and Madagascar, (and Shark Tale) I think you analyzed it well.

I don't think every DW movie is a MASTERPIECE, but like you said there are ones with real heart. And then there are the not-so-great ones.

I agree with you Ben

Although I thought over the hedge was really overrated.

When 2d makes a revival, I'm really hoping dreamworks will bring 2d back as well.
They weren't all that good but every single one of them looked amazing visually.

Oh, I rented Open Season a few days ago...Pretty movie, indeed, but poor overall.

How ironic, I just saw both these films the other day!

Flushed Away was better than I expected. I loved the story, the characters, and the overall fun of it. Like Meg, I enjoyed this a lot more than Monster House. Oh, and I loved the slugs! They were so cute, and they always got a chuckle out of me!

Open Season again, better than I expected. From the previews, it just looked like a rip-off of Madagascar and The Wild, but somehow manages to be a little more independant. I really loved the relationship between, Boog and Beth. It was so touching, that I almost teared up at the end, when they "officially" say good bye. The film also has real beautiful visuals, and some great jokes. It was just nice, wholesome fun!
