The Weinstein Company is bringing the french/canadian animated feature Leap! to U.S. theaters on March 3rd ..

.. and it actually seems to have an interesting story with some fun moments, and to be appealingly-designed & animated..! :o

Kids and I watched a trailer a few days ago and were underwhelmed. I actually thought maybe it was straight to video. Obviously hope it is better than that, but not expecting much based on the trailer choices.

Well .. I'd meant, by comparison with other Weinstein titles such as The Reef/Shark Bait, Escape from Planet Earth, Arthur & The Invisibles or Hoodwinked (which suffer in one, some -- or even all -- of those categories) .. but, point taken.

The dynamic between the girl & boy and the setting/period reminds me of Anastasia and A Monster in Paris, both of which I very much enjoyed. The boy particularly reminds me of Jean in the anime TV series Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water .. whom I've always rather liked, as a character.

I'll definitely give Leap! a 'look-see' when it arrives. :)

Thanks for sharing the Leap! trailer. I saw posters for this when I went to the cinema over the Christmas break, but here in Australia it is being called Ballerina - and the posters has the peasant girl in a room full of ballerinas at the practice bar. The trailer makes me more curious about the movie than the poster. I honestly thought this movie was appealing to that small niche crowd of girls who want to be ballerinas, but now I can see why the movie is actually getting a theatrical release because of the trailer. And after a quick search on Wikipedia, I see the original title is Ballerina, but at least the French poster shows the movie is more than just a girl learning ballet.

Ah, got it! Yes, I saw the French trailer for this around a year ago and couldn't remember the name of it. As soon as you mentioned Ballerina, I remembered. Although the animation does look a bit less than US theatrical fare (but slightly better than a DTV, which is pretty par for the course with European CG), I thought the design and story at least looked unique in the French trailer. Although TWC will again drop the ball on releasing an animated film, it's cool that it will get a wider US theatrical issue.

What does seem to be the problem with people writing out Transylvania!?

Everywhere I look, it's just Hotel T this and Hotel T that! It's not that hard a word to get right!
