Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Live-Action)

Minor update:

Don is currently producing a live-action version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame for Disney. He’s seen the stage version, which offers a very different experience from the animated film, and loves it. It’s important to Don Hahn that these stories get retold in ways that stay relevant for the current generation in the same way that Walt Disney took fairytales and updated them for his time. He doesn’t want to simply remake the film, but approach it from an angle that will resonate more with today’s audiences.
Which sounds promising. Josh is a great choice for Quasimodo.

I mean, the themes in the original are actually pretty topical today...

Hopefully it’s not a Disney+ premiere.

You know it will be since it's from "The Troubles"! Something, something, Michael Eisner.

Definite theatrical.

Oh, right, think I know what you mean, like, "Etc., etc., Eisner had a personal preoccupation with seeing the musical revived on stage or ABC, and nobody else at the studio did"?

Yeah, and zbb-zbb-something, "Only expensive animal-CGI and A-list money stars/directors get theatrical", from all the Mulan discussions, usually shows up at this point.

Well, this has a shedload of CG in it and an A-list director, if who I’ve heard is doing it winds up doing it. And you don’t know who they’re looking at for Esmerelda yet...

And follows a long line of ridiculous names to a made-up era (that itself changes on a dime!) : "Hunchback era", "Downslide", "Disappointments", "The 90s Orphans", "Flop years" and "Ghetto". You can't make this stuff up.

You forgot "the Stain-ton era", and "the Chicken Little 'Sky is Falling' years".

That touches on Victor and Hugo being named after author Victor Hugo — surprise — but I never understood why the third female gargoyle wasn’t called Marie.

Not only is it a classic French female name as we know it today, but back then when such things were more common, it was actually Victor Hugo's middle name!

Why they called the three gargoyles Victor, Laverne and Hugo instead of Victor, Marie and Hugo — his actual name! — might have made for a better fun fact in itself!

And yes, Dacey…you are getting old! My big moment was when Ghostbusters hit 30 years old — and even that is nearly ten years ago now!!

Apparently, Laverne is named after one of the Andrews sisters—though why they went with that I’m not sure!

I think I knew why they called her Laverne, it not why they didn’t call her Marie. Makes more sense, no?

One of the funnest "age" things I ever saw was my Mum pulling out of our drive, indicating a turn right…and driving off left!
