Don is currently producing a live-action version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame for Disney. He’s seen the stage version, which offers a very different experience from the animated film, and loves it. It’s important to Don Hahn that these stories get retold in ways that stay relevant for the current generation in the same way that Walt Disney took fairytales and updated them for his time. He doesn’t want to simply remake the film, but approach it from an angle that will resonate more with today’s audiences.

Which sounds promising. Josh is a great choice for Quasimodo.

That touches on Victor and Hugo being named after author Victor Hugo — surprise — but I never understood why the third female gargoyle wasn’t called Marie.

Not only is it a classic French female name as we know it today, but back then when such things were more common, it was actually Victor Hugo's middle name!

Why they called the three gargoyles Victor, Laverne and Hugo instead of Victor, Marie and Hugo — his actual name! — might have made for a better fun fact in itself!

And yes, Dacey…you are getting old! My big moment was when Ghostbusters hit 30 years old — and even that is nearly ten years ago now!!

Apparently, Laverne is named after one of the Andrews sisters—though why they went with that I’m not sure!
