A Cat in Paris - new French indie film

Post by hcjehg »

Have a look at this new French film produced by Folimage by Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol.

I did unfortunately not work on it, and I have not seen it yet, but from what I hear it is absolutely gorgeous.

Well, I was wondering when, if ever, this movie would come to the States, and we sort of have an answer now: after screening it at the New York International Children's Film Festival, GKIDS has decided to distribute the film in theaters some time this year. I'm even more interested in seeing this film now, because GKIDS has a great track record for high-quality films. They've distributed some of my all-time favorite animated films (Azur and Asmar, Sita Sings the Blues, The Secret of Kells), so I hope this one is great too!

Cool!

They should also look at getting Chico And Rita on screens out there, but it's great to see international animation making its way into the US.

It was shown as part of a film festival here in the Washington DC area, but I missed it. Grr... Hopefully I'll have another chance.

@Ben

"They should also look at getting Chico And Rita on screens out there"...

Hi Ben, I agree. Chico and Rita is out on BD now (Amazon, HMV...). Sure it is not the same experience but it still allows you to enjoy the animation, the colors and the music.

And "A cat in Paris" is also out. You can buy it directly from Folimage: http://www.folimage.fr/blu-ray-une-vie- ... e-chat.cfm Again, not same experience, but (much) better than nothing :-)

Thanks! Actually, I have a pretty nice home theater setup and catch most of the new movies on disc now. It's certainly more quiet than having rude people around who don't turn their phones off or keep talking and eating during the movie! I admit that the audiences for this kind of film would be more reserved (I saw The Illusionist without so much as cough from the audience) but then they're in limited release, and so harder to find/get to or more expensive.

But I have already ordered Chico And Rita and look forward to watching it soon. I've also found Une vie de chat on Amazon.fr and will probably order it there along with Nocturna, which I never got around to getting. Do you know if this release has the English subtitles? I understand a lot of French from my parents, but other friends and family wouldn't understand a thing!

:)
