Update on the remake:

Back in October 2018, reports surfaced that a live-action remake to Disney’s 2002 animated hit Lilo & Stitch was in the works. Since then we haven’t heard much on the project, until now.

We have learned that production on the live-action/CGI hybrid is set to begin filming this Fall in Hawaii. The studio is also prepping this film as a part of their original films for Disney+. A cool tidbit we also hear is that the voice of Stitch from the original films and series, Chris Sanders is expected to return as the voice of Stitch.

Surprised it's heading to Disney+ given that Stitch is still uber popular. Kinda bummed...

It is?? Haven't seen Stitch at the theme parks in years, and Lilo's even harder to find. Things cooled quickly after the direct-videos officially finale'd the Disney Channel cartoon.
Again, think we're about to see a lot of semi-"forgotten" characters that were popular ten or fifteen years ago suddenly get new Lives, along with the semi-forgotten Classics.

After Disney gave him the axe and took American Dog from him??

Don’t want to drag up the practically ancient “Dog” issue again, but it just seems strange since they DID fire the guy. (But then...Lasetter IS gone. Whatever else I think of Iger, I WILL admit that one thing he does have down pat is mending fences with those who’d had ugly battles with the company/studio. JK, Roy Disney, Steve Jobs, and now Sanders. Wish Robin Williams was still with us...maybe Iger could have persuaded him to do more Aladdin stuff. )

Chris still voices Stitch occasionally, by way of commercials and video games, so it's not too surprising he might be returning.

Shame Disney doesn't seem to have faith in a theatrical outing. The US popularity for one, but I think it would have been huge in China and Japan. Both places can't get enough of him. Japan goes without saying, the little guy not only has a big presence in their Disney Store's but also Tokyo Disneyland! There was an anime and he's now even getting his own Manga. China had their own spin-off series, too. Money Disney, money!

No, it's just that they want the iconic voice.

Especially since Sanders' replacement in the dubbed anime series was so awful.

Stitch is a very popular character to meet in the parks. Lilo has a character breakfast at one of the hotels at WDW.

Sanders is actually directing The Call of the Wild starring Harrison Ford! And since it's a 20th Century Fox production, technically he's already back in the fold!

Oh yeah...forgot about that. Technically 20th Century Studios now: Wild will be the first film to carry the amended logo. Apparently it’s already expected to flop, although I though the trailer looked pretty okay, even if the dog looks more than a little iffy most of the time.

Don't be surprised to see D+ films get targeted overseas releases. It could happen.

One wonders if the budget is enough to animate Stitch rightly, let alone the rest of the alien cast. Lady and the Tramp was able because they used real dogs and only had to animate their mouths and expressions. Can't really repeat that here unless they grab a Koala and make it blue. Even with a big budget I was thinking this was going to be one of the harder films to translate. Stitch is cute, but too much detail, yeah...

Hope the budget is enough to include Elvis songs! You just can't do Stitch without the King!
