Yes, this was a real show that ran for a short time in the late 80s. (Nothing to do with Bill Nye lol! )

Yes, it was actually on Saturday Mornings right along with Smurfs and Punky Brewster.

I LOVED it as a kid...mostly because it had adults doing funny things. Seeing it again now, I realize that I didn’t understand 99.9999% of what was being said! I seriously can’t believe this was marketed as a kid’s show....

This is just awesome! I’ve never even seen this before! Six-minute Oliver and Company making-of TV special...brief, but interviews with not only Bette Midler and Billy Joel, but Glen Keane, Cheech Marin, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Huey Louis (sang opening song) and Roy E. Disney!

(Aired during Mickey’s Christmas Carol showing.)

That piano is iconic, and that kind of soft flute will always been associated for me with the sound of Peanuts and Sesame Street. I love it when music transports you straight back to your childhood, as this did.


On the Oliver clip, I was hoping this was the on I saw over here on some show or the start of one of the home video titles of that year, but it was still good to see this one, which was similar. But just lookie at how young everyone is! I was half expecting JK to say, about Midler, that she makes "a great bitch" (!) but he stops himself at "poodle".

Fun to see Keane describe it as "an amusement park ride": I wonder whether Martin Scorsese would agree with that one!? Funny to think that within ten years, though, all what they are talking about would be changing completely...

That opening piece by Huey Lewis really sets the mood. Great soundtrack all around.

Yes definitely! I remember loving that song as a kid, as well as the opening in general. So sad how no one wanted Oliver and he just got left in that box! No wonder he was so happy when Jenny found him!

And ditto on the soundtrack...how can you not love “Why should I worry?” I remember how during its reprise at the end of the film, when Dodger and Tito rode on top of the taxi cab, a lot of the audience just started cheering!

(Oh, and the Sykes kidnapping Jenny scene was absolutely TERRIFYING. Basically Oliver was the film Bolt wanted to be, exactly 20 years earlier. ).
