The shade of red is quite a bit darker than what one sees in the books (or the cartoon). I guess they figured a brighter red would look too ridiculous--- as if that should be a concern once you've made the decision to make a film about a giant dog!

One saving grace is we don't hear Clifford talk. Maybe he doesn't speak after all? Or more likely their saving it as a "surprise"...
