Netflix and tim burton are spinning off wednesday addams into her own live action show.

Sort of the last gasp, now that the Broadway show, the CGI movie and "Dark Shadows" took away any hope of that licensed Addams stop-motion movie Tim wanted to make.
And, true to most post-Sonnenfeld fans..."Eh, screw the series, everyone watched the movie for Christina Ricci anyway". (Or at least, as I would assume, since no one's ever done a Pugsley spin-off.)

And as if that weren't galling enough, Netflix's PR is promoting it as "Tim Burton's TV directing debut", and I had to go and already post that Shelley Duvall Faerie Tale Theater episode on another thread.

Um, I don’t think many knew who Ricci even *was* when the first movie came out: Mermaids had only been months before and, although she’d been noticed by the industry, it wasn’t exactly a breakout for her, which Addams was.

As for Burton on TV: this will be his first full *series* directing debut, as he’s down to helm most of not all the episodes, but as well as the Faerie Tales, people are forgetting about his exec producing a bunch of shows including Family Dog and Beetlejuice. Even earlier, his short Vincent was featured in an episode of The Wonderful World Of Disney with new wraparound intro/sequences, so he’s no stranger to TV as a medium.

But, y'know...everything has to be "new", "first", etc, as a novelty marketing hook.

(Y'know, like Addams Family Values had to become almost entirely PC-Avenger Wednesday: the Movie, and even the CGI movie tried to cram as much Mean Girls-remake in as possible just for her...)

That, and according to the ads, it's a "sleuthing mystery", with Wednesday at a spooky boarding school--
Why do I get the feeling this started out as something else, like a series version of "Down a Dark Hall", before the Timster saw "Spooky girl's school" and said "NOW can I do my Addams movie, just part of it, can I huh? "?

I like Catherine, of course, but she is not exactly a bag of bones like Morticia is traditionally depicted. But a curvy Morticia works for me.

I wouldn’t say she was particularly curvy anymore, though. In an attempt to remain younger looking, she’s done the whole losing all the weight thing, and she’s not actually far off a bag of bones thesedays… Hair and cheekbone makeup and lighting will work wonders, too: Angelica Huston wasn’t exactly "thin" when she was Morticia…

Well, he IS kinda scary loking. Interesting choice. At 65, though (later this month), he seems a little old for the part.

Catherine, on the other hand... I just looked at recent photos, and okay, she might work as Mrs. Addams, thanks to what looks like some botched cosmetic work.
