Don't think it was meant to look 100% like him just a fun little nod in this ad. He does stand out as less cartoony however.

Think it was just a fun quick gag / nod.

Cinemark is offering a popcorn tin:

Ditto AMC:

Both are cool in their own way.

Wahoo! It dethrones Frozen II as the biggest box office opening for an animated film in history. It finally let go! ;)

The 2019 remake of The Lion King is the highest-grossing animated film of all time, unadjusted for inflation.

Did it, though? Because Frozen II had a three day opening, whereas Mario is being counted as a five day (really a six day) weekend.

Elsa’s still queen unless I’m mistaken.

They went to great pains to tell us that The Lion King remake was a "live-action" film. ;)

Even amc wasn't fooled nor fandango. Both listed lion king as "animation" when it was in theatres. Live action my foot. It's as live action as the care bears movie. Spongebob 2 is more of a live action film.

It was produced as a live-action film, using production techniques by live-action filmmakers and rendered by a visual effects company. It's more of a photorealistic visual effects flick.
