While anime film releases often do well in Japan, this level of early interest is rare. Selling out nationwide screenings within minutes is not just impressive, it is historic. That kind of turnout usually signals a film with major cultural weight, not just another sequel.

How insane will this get?

The lushly artistic 1985 film Angel's Egg -- directed by Mamoru Oshii -- has gotten a 4K remaster.

GKIDS will screen the movie in theaters on November 19th .. presumably to be followed by a 4K / Blu-ray release, early next year.



The girl's hair in this movie has many 'flyaway' strands which were inked entirely by hand in white paint, on a separate cel layer above the character cel..! The backgrounds are gorgeous and moody. The storytelling and symbolism are powerfully memorable.

I'll definitely catch the theatrical release .. and look forward to finally upgrading from my DVD..!

Rip Super Mario Manga Creator Kazuki Motoyama who has done the manga since the 80s and the guy who made daisy really popular in japan.

AFAIK .. the Mei and the KittenBus 'sequel short' has never been screened outside the Studio Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan.

and -- at least according to the above news article -- the upcoming screenings of this short will be limited to a newer Studio Ghibli theme park .. in Nagakute, Japan .. during the month of February, 2026 only.

There do not appear to be plans to show this short in "american theaters".

I saw the movie Cosmic Princess Kaguya! on Netflix earlier today. It's great fun.

If you liked Lu Over the Wall and/or Belle -- (and I loved both) -- this movie is a close cousin to them.



If Cosmic Princess Kaguya! gets an Oscar-qualifying theatrical screening, I'm definitely interested in checking it out on a big screen! Lots of lovely detail, throughout this movie.

apparently, CPK! is screening theatrically in Japan at this very moment and during the coming week (in 19 theaters across Japan). No word on any screenings elsewhere, though.

I am actually waiting to see Belle until my new 4K home theatre is all set up, sometime in the next year.

In the meantime, it's great that Netflix is having such good success with animation - even getting Criterion to add KPop Demon Hunters to their library! GDT's Pinocchio I expected, but KPop? Well, good for the creators and for fans. I'm always happy seeing animation celebrated. I still need to see that one, too, though now I might wait for the disc.

(Still no word on Claus hitting disc, though!)

I’d be up for a del Toro Frankenstein if the CC could get it, and as far as 'Flix titles on disc goes, we still need Chris Guest's Mascots on the format. As Ran£ will know, we're nearing the end of a mockumentary run and that’s one I’d love to be playing other than from the streamer.

K-Pop I don’t need. I’ve tried to start it a couple of times on 'Flix and not managed more than 20 minutes. I’ll try again, but I don’t really think it’s for me. Similarly with Sinners, I haven't made it past a half hour hoping that something — anything — was going to start happening!

But I digress into a nominations topic…!
