Cool. There's some bugs in the ambitious demo - like being able to stroke an invisible dog before the file's downloaded - but that's beeing sorted! The DVD's main menu screen is set before a large victorian rocking chair and cast-iron fireplace - it's very pretty. Will try to get pics soon.

it's poor quality, but here's an idea - imagine animated flames, a soft glow of the parafin lamp....You get the idea....

Justin...since you may know...

The fullscreen editon on the disc - PLEASE tell us that it's the correct, Walt-approved Academy framed version and NOT a pan-and-scan of the restored widescreen print.

Rumors have it that it is, but a confirmation would be great.

While press materials for the (currently unavailable) US release suggest that both editions will be available in the same package, the UK release includes only the Cinemascope version.

Yeah, you can select widescreen or fullscreen on the US version. Both on Disc 1.

Wow! See ULTIMATEDISNEY's site for some good screenshots of the menus - see what I mean about how gorgeous they are! If only they used these as benchmarks for EVERYTHING they did.... BTW, what's the best Disney DVD menu? I hated the Lion King's....

Okay...so the fullscreen option...is that the Walt-approved Academy edition of the film?

Or a pan-and-scan of the 2.35:1 CinemaScope framing?

What a missed opportunity...

I got this disc on Friday and checked out the framing once away. The funny thing is that the Academy version gets a mention on disc two - why not include the thing??

Yes, I suppose an entire second version would have had to be remastered, but think of the selling point - "Walt's own second version of the film, unseen for years!" - and the future use of this version on TV, where full frame still rules.

Looks like I'll go a-hunting for the Academy LaserDisc that popped up in Japan a while back...it's certainly worth having in the collection.

As well as Ultimate Disney's tempting six screen shots a day feature, Disney will soon have the new 'Bella Notte' video on the site sung, rather well, by Steve Tyrell. For now, you can catch it on Disney Showcase - I just can't wait for the DVD release on R1!

Yeah, with a totally redundant pan-and-scanned version included.

The lightest of the Platinums so far - including Cinderella - I know people who have cancelled or decided against getting this due to the Academy ratio blunder and lack of meaty features.

There was a US CLV release, too, in case you didn't know. It came out at the same time as the last CLV and CAV widescreen LDs. (I bought the CAV.)
