Favorite Christmas Films?

Post by Josh »

What are some of your favorite Christmas movies?

My pics:

-It's A Wonderful Life
-Muppet Christmas Carol
-The Santa Clause films (Come on, Santa Clause 2 was not that bad. It was a lot better than most of the sequels that come out.)
-The Nightmare Before Christmas
-Elf

What are your pics?

#1: Mickey's Christmas Carol...FOREVER. :D

It was my first intro to the story, through Mickey Mouse.

Mickey as Bob Cratchit....how can you beat that?

Scrooge played by....Scrooge!!

Christmas of the future was played by Pete, the only time I can remember that the Spirit of the Future actually talked.

#2: Scrooged starring Bill Murray. That movie is HILARIOUS and it melts your heart too. The part at the end with the funeral and the coffin always scares the heck out of me.
I think this movie has aged well, and that it might be more popular today than it was in 1988....it has this whole world-weary, sentimental-yet-cynical outlook that people would appreciate more now.
At the same time the Me-80's-yuppie theme IS a little dated.

( :? I guess this post would fit in better at the CC one....)
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

You know what, Violet, I thought of the same thing the other night. I have seen several versions of the tale, and I can't remember ever seeing the Ghost of Christmas Future talking, other than when Pete's version of the ghost did in Mickey's Christmas Carol.

As for our list of Christmas movies, here's another classic one to add to the bunch: Miracle on 34th Street (1947). Actually, I even recommend the 1994 remake as well.

Also, here's another Christmas movie that I can hardly believe I forgot: The Polar Express.

DIE HARD. (j/k)

--------------

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS, and THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS are my favorites, as animation goes.

A film that has 'grown' on me the last couple years, though, is LOVE ACTUALLY. Definitely feels like it could be a 'perennial' classic someday.
