About the most "beyond-the-fringe" things Pixar have done were The Incredibles and Boundin', both of which were the babies of other people in the Pixar establishment.

What about the "I'm No Fool" Jiminy Cricket series? Ludwig von Drake's educational shorts? Where is Pixarland? (Although I guess California Adventure is slowly becoming Pixarland; I liked that Monsters, Inc. ride.)

I thought "Geri's Game" had a really cool artsy quality about it (like a short film). (I'm not sure if Lassetter was the director or not)...I thought it was very symbolic and metaphorical, with many buried meanings.

They should try to aim more for stuff like that, IMO.

Like I said earlier, "To be fair Disney was much more than just animation, and in that respect the analogy breaks down. But in the animation sense I think the Disney/Lasseter comparison is more than apt and very fitting."

And with Lasseter splitting time now with Imagineering, maybe he really is channeling Walt now!

I think Lassetter has some things in common with Walt...(definetely passion and good storytelling) but as to animation, well, it seems to me there was a lot more variety in what Walt did....with all due respect to John I don't think it's "just the theme parks". Snow White is so completely different from Bambi, as is Pinnochio, Fantasia, Dumbo.

And they had some truly scary moments too...remember Lampwick turning into a donkey? Who isn't still scared of that scene? It's TERRIFYING.

My question would be: "Where is Pixar's Lampwick?"

If Bluth had succeeded with better quality and stories in the 1980s, we'd be calling him the new Walt Disney also.

Believe it or not, that phrase was thrown around a bit after he made Nimh.
