Even funnier is that I was SHOCKED as anything to see John in the 1970s soft-porn "epic" The B***c, written by Jackie Collins and starring her sister Joan. JR played some kind of pimp, though I was just fast forwarding through it to find some local locations they used (it was filmed at the studios where I work), so I couldn't make out the story. Look rubbish though, but I had to stop and check whenever he came on because I couldn't believe it was him until I heard him speak!
I guess we all have to start somewhere, but I bet it's something Disney would rather forget! Wink
No surprise to me....didn't the guy used to be on Cheers? That wasn't exactly a "Kid's show" either, to put it mildly.
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!
From the Ratatouille New York Times article on the front page: "It's not a Sequel"
Still, Mr. Bird confessed that pure invention can be “scary” even for those at Pixar. The director pointed, for instance, to a moment in “Ratatouille” when he felt compelled to forgo a climactic action sequence that was demanded by conventional movie logic, but that did not fit the story he and his peers had invented. “You have to let the movie be what it wants to be,” he said.
Yet that can be easier, he added, than trying to follow in the tracks of the audience. “When you just make something you want to see,” he said, “it becomes very simple.”
Interesting. I wonder if this is any hint of the tensions that went on during production?

But Jan Pinkava left a while ago. It just seemed to me from that quote that Bird wanted to do certain things on this film and that "creative reasons" (read: Pixar brain trust) weren't a big fan of what he wanted to do.
"You have to let the movie be what it wants to be," sounds a whole lot like Pixar-speak to me. Sort of like "Chris...he wasn't willing to take it to where it had to be."
