Rare stop motion short from Jan Pinkava

Post by FloydBishop »

Hey everyone,

I finally got around to posting the short film "67" on YouTube. I worked on this film ten years ago with Jan Pinkava during the 1998 Ottawa International Animation Festival.

The film is stop motion, filmed in one long day and edited the next. It was shown on the closing night of the festival. If you look closely in the end, you'll see me, Floyd Bishop. I've got the brown sweater.

Credits: Jan Pinkava, Jordan Craig, Carolyn Craig, Rob Anderson, Jean Claude Kalache, Denis LeLong, Carol Beecher, Floyd Bishop Jr, Heather Hosel, Hugo Desrosiers, Karen Oxhorn, Susan Campbell, Charlie Hill, Ginette Brisson, Chris Mullington, Ed Eagen, and sculpture by Ulysse Comtois.

It was a fun project, and I hope you all have fun watching it.

Hello Floyd :) Welcome on board! It's great to see more of CGTalkers here ;) Thanks for posting this extraordinary piece of animation and video-art - it's always fantastic when a bunch of people makes such things (presumably) just for glory and satisfaction :) Was it totally spontaneous initiative to make this film within two days of the festival or was it previously precisely planned, scheduled and arranged with all those people ?

Hi Floyd!

Long time lurker, first time poster, eh? ;)

Welcome to our boards finally...and I truly hope you stick around and have fun and some gentle animation discussion with us!

I'll check out the short later...sounds very cool. :)

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, it was a spontaneous thing. Apparently, Jan was going through the museum, saw the piece, and really wanted to do something with it. He got clearance from the director of the gallery, and then got approval from the sculptor before doing anything. The equipment used for the filming (a high end Mac and video camera) were on loan from a local Ottawa animation studio (Dynomight Cartoons I believe).

I responded to a poster I saw hanging up in the Arts Centre. I was there for the end of the filming, helping out a bit with that, and then I went to the audio record and edit session in an old bank building. It was a great experience.
