Title Sequences

...I was tempted to swing the discussion to title sequences, but felt it warranted its own thread.

I don't just mean the opening scenes of any movie, but those where the titles or end credits are almost a short film in themselves.

Examples could be the West Side Story suite or The Incredibles at the end of those films, or (the most recent example) Catch Me If You Can from that film.

In starting up the thread, any of my favorites have jumped from my thoughts, but do you guys have any that have stuck with you?

I LOVE the one for the end credits for The Incredibles! They're the most fun credits to watch. ^o^

Another one that comes to mind is the opening title sequence for Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. It was a short animated scene in which 2 kids are shrunk down and run around the house trying to avoid all the hazards that never were before.

Uggh! I still have to see that!

I think the end credits for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban are amusing. It's just like the Marauder's Map.

I don't think the HPs count, do they? Not real animatino or telling a story.

My memory is awful at the moment. I saw something last night with a good sequence and thought I should mention it here, but have completely forgotten!

How about Grease? I think that had some animation in it.

I think the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids sequence was WDFA produced.

I also liked the sequence in Burton's Batman. Well, that's all I can think of for now.

Grease is a good one, setting up the world.

Honey/Shrunk/Kids was not WDFA...I believe it was Kurtz And Friends, though WDFA did produce the "Nazi takeover plan" film shown by Howard Hughes to Cliff Secord in director Joe Johnston's second film The Rocketeer.

As a little history lesson....

Blake Edwards made a little caper comedy about the theft of a diamond called "The Pink Panther." He hired Friz Freleng to animate the opening titles. Friz animated a literal panther, who happened to be pink, cool, suave and debonaire.

The animated title sequence for the original "Pink Panther" movie was so popular that the cartoon character of the panther became more famous than Inspector Clouseau, and went on to have a broad entertainment career on his own.

Don't know why we need a history lesson, but thanks for bringing up The Pink Panther series.

My favorite was Strikes Again, with Richard Williams doing the very funny movie pardoy titles.

And the titles for the new Steve Martin movie were the best things about that film. Took me right back to seeing a Panther movie on the big screen!

Just wanted to bring up the king daddy of animated title sequences... the one which upstaged the movie itself!

I liked the Stuart Little titles too. (the first film.)
