Yes, it is really happening. And sooner than expected, too:

Great balls of fire. I thought that that show died out a while ago.... Apparently, they're still strong enough to produce a feature film. I haven't even watched the shows in years, so it doesn't really matter to me whether I see this or not. You can bet it will be the latter. ;)

Eh, I'm not surprised. It was just a matter of time, but dang, that's quick!

Hehe, I love Alvin! I've seen the whole series and his 'newer' DTV's :P

I shudder to think, what they'll look like. Please, keep them cute! And pick a suitable Dave!

This movie was announced two and a half years ago when "Garfield" was a reasonable success in theaters.

But I haven't heard anything about it in a long, long time.

So, the current fads in Hollywood seem to be "Making 80's Fads into Movies 20 Years Too Late" and "Turning Bad Fantasy Books into Even Worse Films".

Seriously though, live-action/CGI? Yuck! It's Garfield all over again. I think I'll pass, thanks.

Live action/CGI?!

Hm.

My initial reaction is "Nononononononononono" but then I thought about it for a second.

The original Chipmunks sang and interacted with their human owner/friend/thing, right? That could work in live action/animation, at least a lot better than Garfield did. (Jon as a human I could deal with sorta, but Odie as a real dog? What?!) Though I think with the Chipmunks I'd prefer live action/hand-drawn animation. Those chipmunks were so very 2D, and would need to completely wow me in CGI to make me even want to watch the movie. Heck, all 2D would be nice, too...

Question is... what would this be about? What can they base a whole movie around?

Good point, YC!

Hmm, something to do with the Chipettes, I imagine. :P

The coolest shirt at Hot Topic was the one with one of the Chippettes and the words "The original Brittaney."

:) :P

Plus wasn't there already "The Chipmunk Adventure" back in 1990? It was all 2d animated of course, but it was theatarically released.
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

Awww, now I'll probably never be able to do my live-action 'take' on the Chipmunks .. :(

My premise would have been that Dave Seville is the only one who can hear and talk to the Chipmunks .. and of course, he is able to record their singing .. but the Chipmunks look and act like regular chipmunks if anyone else is around, so everyone in Dave's life thinks he is crazy .. but then, the records start selling like hotcakes ..

I would've set it in the 1960's, too .. since that's when the Chipmunks really were a 'phenomenon'. Don't get me wrong, I like the 1980's show, as well .. but that one would be used as a basis for the sequel .. which would be kind of like a VH-1 "Behind the Music" documentary, chronicling the rise-and-fall (and ultimately the rise again) of the band, complete with backstage shenanigans, artistic differences, and the like.

I only hope the folks in charge of this film think the way I do .. but somehow, I doubt it .. :?

For some reason I can see Ben Stiller playing Dave. But that may just be me.

Hot Topic scares me. I don't like how it smells...

They have some cool T-Shirts though, if a bit too agressive for my taste.
